Alexa's Childhood

Big Sis

Alexa and her sister grew up in stability and comfort. The townhouse was in a nice part of town, and due to her mother’s new marriage, they were more or less accepted as part of the local social scene. Her mother was always a little coy and evasive about her history, claiming to have been a baker from Aquacorde Town. Alexa followed suit with how she interacted with her peers. Appearances at soceity functions were common, as were guests for tea.   Alexa was polite and well-behaved; as she got older, she got used to the house and the life that they had. She played the part of sweet socialite daughter well in her childhood, and she made a small gaggle of friends. She didn’t mind the big functions; she loved sneaking finger foods and watching the rich guests in their pretty clothes.   One thing that didn’t change was that she was responsible for looking after Viola. Alexa’s resentment of Viola grew with time; other kids got to play with their friends, but Alexa was stuck watching Viola. Even when they got a nanny, things didn’t really change.   Viola expressed this anger and resentment through…well, through being mean. She would often tell Viola stories just to upset or scare her, often making her cry. She’d hide Viola’s toys, and sometimes she’d have Viola hide as if they were going to play hide and seek before just walking away to do something else.   The worst thing Alexa ever said, and possibly her biggest regret, was something she said when she was eleven to Viola who was only six at the time. Viola was doing something inoccuous that was driving Alexa crazy. Unable to take it any more, Alexa snapped at Viola, which made Viola act out and knock over Alexa’s water cup.   That was the last straw. Alexa blew up, yelling at her sister. She said a number of awful, awful things but the worst was telling Viola that she wished their mom had forgotten her when they left Anville Town, and that Viola was nothing but a big burden.   She regretted it the second it came out of her mouth. She didn’t even mean it; she was just being awful and trying to hurt her sister. Viola just looked over at her, pain and confusion in her big eyes. Why was she being so mean? How could she hurt her baby sister? Viola began to cry, and when Alexa reached out to apologize, Viola screamed and ran away to hide.   That was the lowest Alexa ever felt. She eventually found Viola and apologized, promising to never say anything like that ever again. She’d lived up to that promise, and had worked tirelessly to be a better sister ever since. Viola doesn’t even remember that—she didn’t remember how mean Alexa had been when they were little at all, actually—but Alexa remembers. She still feels so ashamed, and even now.

Honor Student

Around eleven or twelve years old, Alexa started to really mellow out. She became a better sibling and a more attentive daughter. She worked hard at school; good grades were something tangible and something she had kind of started using to provide a sense of self-worth.   Boris was distant, and rarely ever around. He provided for them, but spent most of his time at his real house in Camphrier Town. Alexa was fine with that; Boris wasn’t her dad and she hated him.   Every year, however, Boris would take the family on vacation, often to faraway or luxurious places, like Cinnabar Island in Kanto, Goldenrod City in Johto, or to the islands of Alola (her mom’s favorite). While Alexa thought they were all pretty, she never failed to give Boris a hard time about something every single time.   As Viola got older, Alexa found herself taking on the role of peacekeeper between her mom and Viola. Her younger sister was the rebel between them, and she and their mother butt heads—often and loud. Alex tried her best to explain things to her mom, and to help Viola come around and behave herself.   It seemed as though most of the time, Alexa was the only person able to get through to Viola. If their mother needed Viola to behave, it was usually only done because Alexa talked to her.   Viola and Alexis were very close, and the two would often sneak off together at events with a big stack of whatever desserts were being served that night, and found hours later, faces covered in chocolate or whipped cream and giggling.
