The Volbeat Goes On

New Friends

He made it about halfway down the Route when he stopped for a rest at a large campground. He met another trainer who listened to Kai’s story with Volbeat, and he offered to help. The trainer explained that seeing Kai commanding it to fight could earn its respect. Kai thought that might work, and agreed to a spar.   Of course, as soon as Volbeat came out it punched him in the head and flew away. Kai gave chase, pleading with Volbeat to come back. The other trainer, thinking Kai was being cowardly and running away, chased him.   It all came to a head when Mige Fjord, a trainer from Kanto, stepped in to help. Kai was able to recall Volbeat and Mige took care of the angry trainer by explaining the situation and having a battle with them in Kai’s place.   Relieved, Kai profusely thanked Mige and offered to cook him dinner. Joined by Mige’s friend Crystal Lear, the three of them enjoyed a simple curry dish and talked about their journeys and goals. Mige and Crystal were trainers on the road to gather gym badges, and it was eventually decided that they could all benefit from traveling together. Essentially, Mige and Crystal would make sure he wasn’t killed in his sleep by a Bunnelby and in return he would help them by acting as a translator and tour guide. Plus, he got sweet comped meals in every town! Can’t beat free meals, right?   Mige and Crystal happily agreed to that arrangement. Additionally, Mige offered to help Kai with Volbeat, as he had experience with unruly Pokemon. Crystal gave him an egg she’d found only the day before at Mige’s suggestion; caring for the egg would be a good experience for Kai. Of course, Kai agreed and was determined to follow Senpai’s instructions.   The three kept on the road southeast, having a few interesting encounters along the way. Most notable was a large outdoor music festival/rave a few miles from the city limits. The three of them joined in the party. Mige and Crystal drank and partied hard, leaving Kai to act as a sort of sober, designated den mother; he kept them out of trouble and eventually guided them both back to camp to sleep it off.
