Capital City of Thereus

Written by Red-Robin-426

The City of Thereus is the capital of the Republic of Thereus. Originally founded by elven refugees during the Cataclysm (Losarian term for the Eternal Rains), the city started out as an encampment on the shores of Stormtide bay. The first buildings were established in what would later become Krasswood and the area of Keepsake fort. After the gods were sealed behind the Devine gate, the small city doubled in size as humans and Goblikes came to the city for safety and housing. After this the areas of the Glassyard, Clayhall and Silk Gate were established.   The council of the city commissioned a wall to be built around the city and thus the Silk, Grey and eastern gates came into existence. When Isabella left Iropolis to conquer the continent, the regions of The Ridge grew. Many people settled outside the Grey gate seeking the protection of the city, later these areas would become an official part of the Capital. Greatstars retreat was established after the soil was found to be fertile, though people started settling there after Stormtide Manor was built for Lord Judge Darsar Greatstar. Before that, the area was known as the Grainlands.

The population of Thereus counts ~132.000. 63% Human, 13% Elves, 9% Dwarves, 15% other races

The city is guarded by a regiment of the standing army called the ... . Apart from them the cities laws are managed by a group of town guards located in the various quarters.

Industry & Trade

The people of Krasswood survive by trading their import with the surrounding boroughs and towns. In the Glassyard there are many shops that create, there are workshops, potion sellers and blacksmiths.   Most of the trade comes from skilled labourers who came to the capital for better fortunes. These labourers are likely former pupils of major craftsmen throughout the Republic. Many enchanters will have studied at Trodworth or have apprenticed at a shop in the city.   Within the city in the neighbourhood of the Glassyard stand a few workshops for the making of fine garments. These are evade by seemsters using the finest imported and locally sourced fabrics. Clothes made from therosian wool likely trace their origin to the Capital.

Districts

The City is divided into areas.
  1. The Clayhall, the home of many taverns and inns, the Pearlhall and the University. The Clayhall is in the centre of the city and is the general region for travellers and scholars.
  2. Krasswood, the oldest of the neighbourhoods, is home to fort Keepsake, and the many warehouses and shops that are dependent on the docks. Krasswood is where the city meets the water and where the elves and gnomes first settled.
  3. The Glassyard is the largest of the neighbourhoods inside the walls. Residential area for the peoples of the city. The Glassyard is filled with homes and workplaces.
  4. Final of the Inner walled neighbourhood is the Silk Gate. The southeast part of the city is dedicated to the creation of Thereus' finest garments.
  5. Grey gate, outside the city walls to the west, is the poor area of town. The borough of grey gate is wrought with low quality housing and crime.
