Cartha (Kar-Tha)

Cartha is a large town in the northern portion of the Free Hills. The town sits on the southern bank of the Lower Shugod River. Cartha survives by ferrying merchants from the south across the river and into the Kuddo region of the Orc Domain. The town is noted for the guard services provided to those who ship along the Lower Shugod River and for the war dogs bred in Mastiff's Village.   Cartha is defended by a sturdy wooden palisades. A number of large farms exist beyond the town walls. These rely upon hired guards to defend against potential monster incursions.   In recent years the ferry services have been dominated by a Halfling group known as the Leaflades. This group is lead by the matriarch of the founding family, Verne Leaflade. Rumors float around town concerning the circumstances surrounding the rise of the Leaflades. Many Carthan ferryman have been forced to shut down their operations and take up work as a guard or in the fields.  

Districts:

Cartha is made up of the following districts;
  • Mastiff's Village: The primary residential district of Cartha. The name comes from the kennels located on the east end of the district. These kennels are known for breeding strong and intelligent war hounds.
  • Palace Farthing: This district contains the seat of power in Cartha, the Speaker's Chambers. When Cartha was initially founded the town was ruled by a monarch. When the monarch was overthrown the palace was turned into the Speaker's Chambers.
  • Tunnel Market: The primary market in Cartha. The market got its name from the complex tunnel network that allows merchants to transport goods from the walled town to the ferries along the river.
