Braden's Chase

Braden's Chase is a large arborial forest dominating the eastern half of the Ward of Elisar. It is roughly 400 square miles of largely unexplored ancient hardwoods, many stands containing trees older than 500 years. It is a dense, dark woodland where many potential dangers exist.   Locally called "the Chase", it has produced two large forest dragons and is the known haunt of dozens of short-faced bears, giant boar, smilodon and several wyvern nests.  It is also famous for its curved and gnarled trees that produce much of the country's specialty shipbuilding pieces that require curved or unique shapes.

Fauna & Flora

Dense oak, ash, maple, hickory and chestnut growth, with scattered birch and alder patches throughout.  The southern reaches of the Chase produce a particuarly valuable oak gall that is highly prized as an ink base for use on parchment and vellum, as it is indelible and does not fade with time or exposure to light.   The forest teams with game, ranging from partridge, turkey, doves, and pheasant to bear, wild boar, giant beaver, deer, elk (including the famous Megaloceros) and forest bison.

Natural Resources

Hardwoods of all kinds, some spruce and white pine, countless natural and magical springs, oak gall, charcoal materials, nuts, berries, vines, mosses and mushrooms.
