Acathian Islands

The thousand islands of the Acathi Peninsula

The Acathian Islands are an extensive archipelago located to the south and east of the Acathi Peninsula. Comprised of hundreds, possibly thousands, of islands varying in size, the majority of these landforms remain uninhabited, their rugged landscapes serving as evidence of the geologically active past of the region. The archipelago forms an integral part of the Acathi Governorate.   The largest island of the group, Varenna, stands out as a significant hub of activity within the otherwise sparsely populated island chain. Hosting a strategic outpost of the Namorian Navy, the island also boasts a flourishing settlement that has grown around the military establishment. The strategic location of Varenna serves as a crucial stopover point for naval traffic moving east-west along the Middle Sea and north-south from Acathi city to the Vaeloran Coast.   The inhabitants of the Acathian Islands, commonly referred to as the Isolates, are a cultural subset of the ancient Acathian ethnicity. Each island hosts a distinct but interconnected culture that has evolved in isolation over centuries. The Isolates are known for their resilience, adaptability, and intimate knowledge of the sea.   While the islands offer a peaceful refuge to most, they are not devoid of nefarious activities. The archipelago's isolated and inaccessible nature has been exploited by individuals and groups wishing to evade the long arm of Namorian law. Over the centuries, the Acathian Islands have earned a reputation for harbouring raiders, pirates, cultists, and a variety of other outlaws. These elements, while they constitute only a small fraction of the islands' inhabitants, contribute to the sense of mystery and intrigue that surrounds the Acathian Islands.
