Oxbow
Located in the southwestern most part of The Great Namilli Plains, downriver of Oxbow Lake and along the Oxbow River, Oxbow is the capital of Boatwood Reach. To the west is [NAME FOR WESTERN OCEAN HERE], and to the south is the Thadal Rainforest. The area is partway between grassland and rainforest, so there are less farms here than in the other Reaches. Since they have more lumber to work with, the people who settled Oxbow became adept boatsmen. They often ride the river down to the [WESTERN SEA] and trade with the merfolk who live in the area.
Those who live in the most southern section of the Reach, where the city is located, have never seen a Diplodocus, since the trees here are too close together for the large sauropod to easily navigate. Instead, the area is dominated by Iguanodon, which is the main source of meat for the inhabitants of the area.
Because Oxbow is so close to the Thadal Rainforest, it rains frequently and the sky is most often overcast. The people here, should they be touched with magic, are most often users of Aquas, the element of water. Due to this, Oxbow has the largest temple to Arch Ananda, the First Arch of Aquas on Septentrionalis. Only the temple dedicated to her on Meridianus, the continent Arch Ananda watches over, is larger.
Demographics
While mostly human, Oxbow is unique amongst the cities on The Great Namilli Plains in that drow are allowed to live here and do so peacefully. While the human inhabitants vastly outnumber drow, it is not rare to see a drow wandering around the city, shopping or working.
Industry & Trade
Oxbow is mainly a fishing city, and the richest time for the inhabitants is the salmon run every spring. It's a tourist attraction as well, for the citizen throw a long festival announcing the arrival.
They sell their ships to anyone willing to buy.
Wood trade is huge in the Reach, and tree farms are more numerous than food farms.
Infrastructure
It is often argued that the crafters who build boats here build the most sturdy boats in all of Tilandrial. This has yet to be proven.
History
Oxbow was founded by a group of fisherman looking for the best wood to build their boats out of. The town was originally a few huts in a clearing, but as the salmon run became more and more celebrated, Oxbow gradually grew into the largest city in Boatwood Reach. Boatwood Reach soon became known for having the best wood for boat building, becoming a major trade item. Tree farms quickly became more numerous than food farms.
During the War of the Reach, Boatwood Reach did not do much fighting beyond defending their boarders. Since the Sphinxes were mostly staying to the other side of the Plains, their influence did not touch the residents of Boatwood Reach as strongly as it did in other Reaches.
After the continent was reopened, the people's life returned to normal. The fear of magic did permeate this Reach, but the inhabitants often ignored acts performed by those touched by Natura, the element of nature or Aquas, since that magic was benificial to the inhabitants. Once Moonstrike was founded, multiple vampire attacks forced the Oxbow citizens to become adept with crossbows. Even after Lord Marcel Moonstrike formally outlawed random feedings on humans, those who live in Oxbow remain wary of strangers. The clothing style became adapted for protection against vampires, with me, women, and children alike wearing leather armor as their every day outfits. It is not uncommon to see the general population armed with a crossbow while out running errands.
Architecture
Due to the vast amount of trees, weather-treated wood is the main building material.
