Maressea

The Kingdom of Maressea was a prosperous nation that once occupied the majority of a large, forested level of the Dungeonscape.

Structure

Maressea was ruled by a monarch known as a Coronet, aided by a high nobility called Sylves.

Culture

Maressean culture was primarily elven, following the life and customs of the Faerûn empire of Cormanthyr.

Disbandment

In -58 DR, following several centuries of close alliance between Maressea and the neighbouring kingdom of Tiriande, Queen Hilda Mithrilspear of Tiriande orchestrated a coup that results in the death of the Coronet and half the Sylves. Though undeniably tragic for the assassinated nobles, the coup was relatively bloodless and the citizenry accepted the nations' merging with little resistance.

Demography and Population

Primarily Elvish (Wood Elf, Sun Elf, Eladrin, Avariel) & Gnomish (Forest Gnome), with some Dragonborn (Gold, Faerie)

Military

Maressea was a peaceful nation, but kept a well-organized and highly trained military that was primarily used for defense against the dungeon and the hostile nation of Valorast. Unlike that nation with its summoned hordes and the Tiriande of the time, which employed a more traditional military, Maressean armies were formed primarily of small specialized squads that performed surgical strikes and harried enemy supply lines, relying on druidic magics to tie up the bulk of the enemy forces.

Religion

Corellon Larethian, Eilistraee, Silvanus, Selûne

Foreign Relations

Maressea was a prosperous and open nation that enjoyed close, friendly relations with Tiriande and Cormanthyr. It had a fraught relationship with the Magocracy of Valorast, which desired the nation's natural resources and abundance of naturally-occurring magics and alchemical ingredients.

Agriculture & Industry

Maressea was an agricultural powerhouse, with the incredibly fertile forest floor producing vast quantities of plant life.

Trade & Transport

Maressea engaged in active trade with Tiriande and, when possible, its mother nation of Cormanthyr. Primary exports were foodstuffs, woodcrafts and elven craftsmanship.
