Gith Devnara

Gith Devnara was a member of the proto-race that eventually split into the Githyanki and Githzerai. Born in the Far Realm during her race's enslavement by the Illithids, she was, none the less, possessed of a stubborn and rebellious streak. She eventually escaped her masters and fled into deeper parts of the Far Realm. There she learned the fighting style favored by the entities that would one day be called the Kalashtar and used these techniques to aid others of her race in their own escapes.

Devnara and her followers fled the Far Realm during one of its conjunctions with Tol, but their time in the realm of madness had changed them so much that they could feel no kinship with the world of their forefathers. They eventually split into two groups. The githyanki traveled to the Astral Sea to seek immortality and eventually came to reside there, becoming a piratical scourge. The githzerai chose to travel to the Elemental Chaos where they became a bastion of order in that anarchic place.
