Githzerai

The githzerai are the descendants of an unknown proto-race native to Tol. They were enslaved by the Illithids sometime in the distant past and taken to the Far Realm. After Gith Devnara led her rebellion and led her people to Tol, they found they could not live in the realms of their ancestors. Instead, they divided. The Githyanki traveled to the Astral Sea to seek spiritual enlightenment. The githzerai, however, traveled to the Elemental Chaos to test themselves against the chaotic energies of that plane.
By contrast to their warlike cousins, the githzerai are primarily peaceful, preferring to remain in their monasteries in the Elemental Chaos. They have mastered the unarmed combat styles favored by the Kalashtar spirits. With the increasing encroachment of Far Realm entities into Tol, they have begun coming to Tol in larger numbers to aid against their former enslavers and their ilk. As a result, they are becoming a less rare sight in the cities and towns of the Seven Kingdoms.
