Kalah Heigaari

Once ruler of the Orrin Empire, Kalah dragged the world into extinction when his attempt to bring his wife back from the dead triggered the magical catastrophe known as the Great Extinction. Transformed into a powerful arch Wraith, tortured by the constructed soul of his dead wife and his obsession with her, Kalah now stands as the Shadow Monarch.

Characteristics

Physical features

As the shadow monarch, Kalah and Isolde have a pale complexion and white hair. They are adorned by a green, spectral crown and a triangle shaped wound in there chest, where Black Mist pours out. Kalah wears a black leather jacket and pants with light armorments and no shirt. Kalah can also manifest armor made from Black Mist, including a helmet and a chest plate.   In life, Kalah had a tan complexion and brown hair. He wore a blue leather jacket and undershirt with black pauldrons and gauntlets with gold accents. He also wore brown pants with black boots.

Mental traits

Kalah was an incredibly passionate, yet arrogant man. Due to being raised in nobility, Kalah was given everything in life and believed all was his. He was deeply enamored with his wife Isolde, and would dote on her. His devotion to his wife lead him to be highly disinterested in ruling their kingdom and neglect his responsibilities. He has shown himself to be a perfectionist, having high expectations of his queen and would berate her when she couldn't live up to them. When Isolde was poisoned, Kalah became obsessed with saving her, using all of the kingdom's resources to try and keep her alive. When the queen had passed, he was willing to slaughter thousands and defy Death itself in order to bring her back.

History

Last ruler

The second son of Emperor Khadgar Heigaari, ruler of the Orrin Empire, Kalah was never intended to lead. Instead, he lived a life of comfort that made him complacent and selfish. However, when his older sister died, Kalah, who possessed neither the inclination nor the aptitude for rulership, suddenly found himself crowned as the new king.   He showed little interest in his position until he met a poor seamstress named Isolde. So taken was he by her beauty that the young king offered her his hand in marriage, and thus, one of the most powerful rulers of the age was wed to a peasant girl.   Their romance was enchanting, and Kalah, who had rarely shown interest in anyone other than himself, devoted his life to her. The two were inseparable—he scarcely went anywhere without Isolde, always lavishing gifts upon his queen, and his attention could seldom be broken when she was present.   Kalah’s allies fumed. Unable to interest him in governance, and with the nation beginning to unravel under his questionable rulership, especially after the late creation of the Kingdom of Alterin, some plotted in secret to end their new king’s reign before it had begun. His nation’s enemies, meanwhile, saw an opportunity to strike, and the vipers began to circle.   Thus did an assassin’s poisoned dagger one day come for Kalah. But the king was well defended, and the dagger did not strike true—instead grazing Isolde.   The toxin worked quickly, and Isolde fell into a ruinous torpor, while Kalah could only watch in horror as his wife’s condition grew ever more serious. Overwhelmed with fury and despair, he spent every last coin within his coffers trying to save her.   But it was all for naught. Isolde perished in her bed, and Kalah was consumed by madness.   His search for an antidote became desperate and crazed. Unable to accept his wife’s death, he sacrificed every treasure of the kingdom—every scrap of wealth—to his quest to bring her back to life. As the land fell into disarray, Kalah hid himself away with Isolde’s body, becoming hateful and violent.   Then came the day he learned the secret of the Philosopher's Stone and its power to break past the limit of life and death. With the wealth of a country, he employed scientists, mages, and wizards to study the creation of a Philosopher's Stone, slaughtering anyone refusing to work for him or who stood in his way until the answer was finally revealed to him. The sacrifice of his people... of the world itself would be necessary for him to attain the power he sought to revive his dead wife. She would return to him, no matter the destruction he wrought. No matter the cost.   Kalah clinged to his last hope of bringing Isolde back to life. And for just one moment, she did return. Yet the world crumbled under him—the great extinction.

Undeath

Kalah and his wife, at the center of this world-ending event, watched as everything faded out of existence, the building blocks of reality itself twisted by the Magic stone.   With her soul already long gone, the Philosopher's Stone created a new one for Isolde. This unnatural creation was twisted and corrupted by the force of the cosmos, resulting in an arch wraith. Isolde arose as a horror of rage, anger, and pain, killing her "savior" and driving the very stone he used to create her through his heart. The magic of the stone and the arch wraith clashed, and the energy erupted, tearing across Kalah's soul too.   The constructed soul of Isolde and the corrupted soul of Kalah now merged, forming something more than just the arch wraith that Isolde was raised as. They became something stronger than anything seen before.   An arch wraith normally has a domain of dread within the Shadowfell, but this entity was so powerful that it enveloped the entire Shadowfell as its domain. Kalah's twisted mind fueled the arch wraith with a dangerous obsession, a deranged love driving its every action, desire, and atrocity. A deadly black shadow poured out of the gaping hole in the arch wraith's broken heart, ripping the life from everything it touched.
Its reign is terror.
Its love is eternal.
