Slaughterhouse Fighting Pits
Originally the Neverwinter Academy
The Slaughterhouse has been used for various purposes since it was originally built as a monastery shortly after the founding of [Neverwinter.
By the time it was destroyed in 1372 during the Wailing Death that plagued the city that year, was being used instead as the Neverwinter Academy where doctors were working on a cure. An unexplained event shook the academy for no more than 3 hours, but by the time it was over... There was not a soul left alive. There were also no bodies. Although the grounds of the Academy were littered with destruction, there were no recovered bodies despite the blood and other signs of a deadly struggle. The mysterious deaths lead to the nickname the "slaughterhouse."
It lay empty for years, gaining notoriety until the Slaughterhouse fighting pits grew, eventually running as an official business under the empire of Mirach Daanaath II. Not until Mirach Daanaath III took over the fighting pits did it take off in popularity.
Today, the fighting pits hold weekly bouts, though their crowds are generally sparse. To draw in large crowds the pits host themed events frequently (especially during holidays, festivals, and other celebrations). These themed events draw a more noble crowd sometimes with anyone from the Vell children all the way up to the lord protector himself, Dagult Neverember, on at least one occasion.
