Morninglord

Morninglords, formerly known as morninglords of Lathander, were the specialty priests of the deity Lathander, considered to be among the most elite orders, as well as one of the highest ranks, within his clergy members.   These respected priests served as dedicated healers and councilors to the followers of Lathander and other folks in communities throughout Faerûn. They protected the people from all manner of malign forces and were known as fervent destroyers of the undead. The morninglords were beacons of hope in a world that was often dark and full of dangers.   Very often, they traveled the Realms as preachers, bringing the glory of the sun to all dark places of the world and garnering greater respect of their church, this is also how this religion came to Barovia.

Saint Markovia

Saint Markovia was a cleric of the Morninglord who ran an abbey and hospital in The Village of Krezk when Strahd von Zarovich first invaded Barovia. Immediately she took a stand against Strahd as a leader, and after his transformation into a vampire, she and her most loyal followers stormed Castle Ravenloft, only to be slain by Strahd.
The abbey was renamed to the Abbey of Saint Markovia in her honor, and the pool and shrine at the foot of the abbey was blessed by her.

Culture

The morninglords of Amaunator drew on the optimistic spirit that was embodied by the aspect of Lathander. They were considered the embodiment of his youth and personification eternal renewal. They were relentless and unrestrained in their actions, spreading the light of the sun to all the dark and chaotic corners of Toril.

History

Forms of religion are rare in Barovia, many consider Strahd as their god ruling over them and therefore he is not a fan of other religions. However, before Barovia was taken over by Strahd, the country excisted mainly of followers of the Morninglord. This religion persisted through the years and generations of all families whom believe in good.

Disbandment

In many places the Barovians have been forced to hide their believes, with the exception of The Village of Krezk, where this religion is clearly still active. There are signs of this religion throughout the country as well with certain churches or abandoned ruins, the most prominent one being The Abbey of Saint Markovia.

Priesthood

Over the centuries the Morninglords have tried to defeat Strahd and free the land, the most recent example of this is Elrein Agradim's squadron of Aasimar diving into the mists and losing a quick battle.
