Overview
The traditional process through which a Red Blade is bonded to a spellcaster is called "The Bonding". This is the process through which a Red Blade becomes an Aegis.
The bonding ritual is an ancient spell used by the
Mer'anin and the
Vor'anin to create a special bond between the spellcaster (the Bond Holder) and one other individual (the Aegis). The bond created is permanent and can only be broken by the person who created it, though it can be supressed through some rare methods (for example, using
Veinstone or specialized spells).
Other then the casting of the spell, no oaths of other formal committments are required.
Bond Effects
The bond provides special benefits to the holder and the aegis:
- The Aegis receives a physical boost to their strength, agility and focus. They no longer need to sleep in order to recuperate, falling into a meditative trance instead (similar to how elves meditate instead of sleeping during a rest)
- As long as the holder and the aegis are on the same plane of existance and both are alive, they are aware of each other's presence, no matter how far apart they are and whether or not they can see each other.
- The holder and aegis can point towards the direction the other person is physically located, provided they are within 10 miles of each other.
- The holder and aegis can communicate by sharing basic emotions through the bond, and they can do this by choice.
