Claudia Giannulli (maiden/first family name)/Napaline (second family name) (a.k.a. Boss)
Mental characteristics
Claudia Napaline was originally born Claudia Giannulli, who once owned a family business operating a vineyard in the Italian countryside. However, after owning and operating the vineyard for almost 140 years, tragedy struck the region. A new kind of parasitic worm that fed upon the grapevines and killed the plant was accidentally brought in from a different planet. With no natural predators, the things devastated the Tuscan countryside. Multiple vineyards were forced to close, with the Giannulli vineyard being but one of many decimated. While the Italian government provided support for those effected it wasn't enough for the Giannulli family in particular. They had to sell their land to keep their heads above water and worse yet, Claudia's father Paulo turned to the bottle as a coping mechanism. Claudia's mother eventually had enough of his shameful behavior and divorced him, taking Claudia and her brother Paulo (named for his father) with her. The three of them hopped from place to place, before eventually they saved up enough money to get off planet. The family traveled to Invitus Rán, and set up a new life for themselves in the Mirrath District. Claudia's mother eventually remarried and her name became Napaline. Claudia thought that her mother was too quick to abandon their father. Years later after finishing her education in Administration and Hospitality, she traveled back to Earth to find her father. She did eventually find him again, and he had managed to pull himself back together and reacquire the vineyard. Her father was glad to see she was doing well, and the two of them had a pleasant reunion. Claudia's father asked about her mother, but when Claudia told him that she had already remarried, he gave up on going to see her.
Claudia grew resentful of her mother and when she returned to Invitus Rán, she spited the woman by doing something she would have never considered before. She quit her job at the local hotel and applied for a position at The Orethea. Her mother saw the prostitution as both scandalous and abominable, and often campaigned in the city to have such places shut down. Her daughter began learning the business side of the venture from Hrossir (the original owner) and with several changes after the original matron passed away, Claudia became the new manager of the establishment. Since she became the manager, the brothel has become far more prosperous than ever before. However, she is the only employee who works there that does not interact with clients, outside of scheduling appointments for them.
Social
Her Mother: has become estranged.
Paulo (Giannulli III) Napaline: Younger brother, currently going to University. Estranged due to pressure from parents.
Joseph Napaline: Step-father, estranged due to religious views.
Paulo Giannulli II: Biological father. While he doesn't exactly approve of her decision, he doesn't condemn her for it either. They still speak with each other on occasion, and even visit each other every few years or so.
Claudia was raised as a Roman Catholic, however, starting work at The Orethea forced her to abandon some of her preconceived notions on prostitution as an industry. She originally chose to work at The Orethea simply because she had heard that it was the most respectable brothel in town. But it wasn't until a few months into her training there that she learned that none of The Orethea's employees were slaves. Each and every one of them worked there by choice, and they could quit whenever they wanted (this is not true of every other brothel in the city). At first her sensibilities were offended by the choice these women made, but with time, she grew to understand their decision and respect them for it.
While Claudia has a rather blunt manner of speech, she is an extroverted person by nature. She has a great deal of confidence in both her decisions and choices, and doesn't often second guess herself.
Being Italian, she often gestures with her hands and arms while speaking.
Claudia has a love for gardening. With her residence being one of only a few in the entire city to have a green house on property. There she grows plants from different parts of the galaxy that she happens to like. She also owns a male tom-cat called Mercutio (named for the character in Shakespeare's acclaimed play Romeo and Juliet) who she lavishes a great deal of affection on.
Claudia has a Tuscan county accent, that has been mixed and mingled with the accent of a staitioner. She has a rather blunt manner of speech for someone trained to work in the hospitality industry, however she does put in a great deal of effort to keep a civil tongue even with unruly customers.
History
Claudia and Clöe's relationship began in 2254 when Pricilla (one of Hrossir's closest confidants) and Sear (a galotian prostitute currently working for The Orethea) introduced the two of them. At first, Claudia didn't know what to make of the girl, and when she learned why Pricilla was taking care of her, she was even less impressed. However, Pricilla and Sear (the latter reluctantly) vouched for the girl, and asked Claudia to give the girl a test run. Claudia set up an appointment with one of their kinder clients and allowed the girl to try out the work. The client she gave the girl to was impressed and pleased, and so Clöe was offered a job at The Orethea after her indentured servitude to Pricilla was over. Claudia gave the girl to Sear to train, and after her training period was complete, she was allowed to work with the other clients. The two of them treated each other as little more than employee and employer at first. But, after Sear left to take time raising her daughter, the two of them interacted more and more; and Clöe swiftly became something akin to Claudia's lieutenant and assistant. By this time, they were more friends than they were simply partners in business.
Commonalities & Shared Interests
Both enjoy reading, and it was Claudia who introduced Clöe to Savin Daxos, the Head Librarian at Invitus Rán's University Library, and got her permission to borrow books there.
