Turquoise Bay
The Turquoise Bay, the Rainbow Bay, the Jewel of the Raja'ri, is an awe-inspiring natural wonder; stretching nearly eight hundred miles long and four hundred and fifty miles wide, its sparkling waters are a brilliant turquoise hue. It is said that the bay's depth reaches as deep as thirty-five hundred feet, making it one of the deepest bays in the world, and certainly in Kalbela.
The bay is not only a beautiful sight to behold, but it also plays a vital role in the economy and livelihood of the people of the Territories. For generations, the waters of the Turquoise Bay have provided bountiful catches of fish and other seafood, making it a hub for net fishers and small fishing vessels.
The Raja'ri have a superstitious behavior of throwing coins or gemstones into the the bay, as an offering to the bay's spirit, in hopes of a safe journey as they approach the Strait of Telemai or before they drop their net or line. This tradition is deeply ingrained in the culture of the Raja'ri, and ships' crews and passengers alike will throw a coin or gemstone into the bay before embarking on their journey. The Turquoise Bay is not only a natural wonder but also a cultural and spiritual symbol for the people of the Raja'ri.
However, the bay is not without its dangers, as the people of the Raja'ri know all too well. The bay is known to be unpredictable, with sudden storms, rough waves, and dangerous oceanic creatures that lurk below the surface in the darker waters below; things that can sink vessels and claim lives with little effort. It is believed that these things are kept at bay by a powerful, slumbering force of nature, but there is no doubt to the Raja'ri, it can take back the bountiful riches it has willfully and so graciously given to the people whenever and however it wants.
