Oar's Rest

Introduction

Oar's Rest is a small village full of taverns, where people pass through on their way between Striflucas and Austium.

Districts

East Bank - The bigger half of the village and the place where most of the travellers stay. It is home to many taverns and their staffs.   West Bank - While the west side of the river is not populated by a lot of people, it is the 'local' part of the village, where the majority of its inhabitants live. Those that don't work in taverns that is.

History

The town started forming around the end of the 11th century when trade between Striflucas and Austium boomed. It was just a place for boat crews to set up camp and rest a day before or after treading the narrow part of the Stri River.   Some people saw the opportunity and started building taverns to offer their services to the travellers.   Throughout the decades, the number of taverns grew and shrunk depending on the economical needs.   In 1350 AU, the village has around 20 taverns and a population of around 200.

Points of Interest

The Bridge - While its name is nothing spectacular, it is a very important structure in the town as it connects the two sides of the river. It is mostly used by the townsfolk.   The Successful Pig Tavern - The cheapest tavern on the East Bank.   The Hidden Lantern Tavern - One of the most popular establishments, it is said to be both quite cheap as well as comfortable.

Governance

The town of Oar's Rest is quite small and it is often debated whether it falls under Striflucas' or Austium's area of influence. Currently it is officially the property of the King, but a small council handles its internal affairs.

Unique Features

  • Despite its small size, the village is full of inns that provide drink, food and shelter to the rowers that travel up and down the river.
