Stovigin

Patrons that have displayed leadership skills are often selected to become Stovigins. These officers lead 120 Patrons in battle and serve as their commanders in peace. They usually know all of their subordinates and often have a good relationship with their men.   Even though their primary responsibility is to lead their forces in battle, Stovigins often spend the majority of their time managing the supplies of their men by commanding their supply personnel, who often outnumber their fighting forces.
In terms of equipment, Stovigins don’t really deviate from Patrons, except for some markings on their capes and spaulders. In battle, they usually carry a standard so they rarely take part in the fighting.

Equipment

Armor

A Stovigin is outiftted with standardized armor that is produced throughout the realm at various locations. This is identical to those worn by Patrons with a few differences. Their cloaks have special stripes on them, signifying their rank. In addition, their spaulders have a number of golden colored markings denoting their Ericius' number.

Weapons

Stovigins are not meant to fight on the frontline, so their assortment of weapons is reduced to their longswords. Additionally, their standards have pointed poles similar to a spear, which they can use as a weapon when absolutely neccessary.

Miscellaneous

Stovigins are not required to carry the regular equipment of Patrons, such as shovels, but they have other items that are neccessary for their duties:
  • Each Ericius has a ledger that is used for keeping track of personnel and supplies. It is the duty of the Stovigin to keep this ledger safe and updated.
  • In addition to the ledger, every Stovigin has a recordbook, used for writing reports to their Capitan.
  • The Ericius' standard is an important marker of a Stovigin's unit. It is used to mark the Stovigin's location in battle. Additionally, when capturing settlements, the Ericius which puts its standard on keep first receives a reward.

Duties

As it is a Stovigin that assigns Patrons to various tasks and duties, they are excempt from performing menial tasks, but this doesn't mean that they are sitting idly during military campaigns. Their tasks are mostly administrative:
  • Giving out tasks to Patrons
  • Keeping track of supplies and personnel
  • Collecting reports from patrols and writing reports to their Capitan
  • Organizing constructions
  • Leading drills
  • Passing judgement in criminal cases (such as theft of supplies)
When garrisoned, many of these tasks still need to be done, but there are additional duties of Stovigins:
  • Procurement and management of supplies
  • Procurement and ditribution of weapons, armor and other supplies
  • Briefing recruits and assigning them to Tents

Qualifications

In order to become a Stovigin, a Patron must have served at least 5 years in the Blakfort Royal Army and must have a crime-free record. Additionally, Couselns can not be promoted. Usually, a new Stovigin is promoted by his predecessor, who became a Capitan, but if that is not the case, the current Capitan will select one. Most often, a Stovigin will have already designated an heir for himself in his reports to the Capitan by praising individuals who seem worthy of becoming a Stovigin.
Once a Patron is promoted to Stovigin, they receive the standard, ledger and recordbook of their predecessor as well as their cloak and spaulders in a short ceremony.

Skirmish Tactics

A Stovigin is rarely walking around without Patrons close by. When their lives are threatened outside of a battlefield, they often resort to ordering them to protect them. But if push comes to shove, they will fight with their longswords. Most often Stovigins prefer a defensive stance, rarely attacking.
