The Sun

The primary light-source for the inhabitants of Trutina, the Sun is a celestial body eternally ablaze and shining bright. Its presence in the sky marks the difference between day and night.   Originally, it was believed that the Sun revolved around Trutina, but advances in astronomy and the magical sciences led to the discovery of the contrary. Amongst learned people, it is common knowledge, that the Sun is the center of the universe (also called Trutina). Other bodies such as the planet of Trutina circle around it in a perfectly circular fashion. The closest of these bodies make up the Solar System. This theory was first worked out by elven astrologists, hence the name Solar, as the elven word for the Sun is Sol.   Sunlight has many magical properties attributed to it, including the ability to give life to plants and pure heat. Unlike The Moon, the Sun is less important in a religious sense, but more important in the day to day life of people everywhere.

Sol in Elven Belief

As the name Sol comes from the elven goddess, Solcritoel's name, its importance to the elves is readily apparent. It is considered to be synonymous with the goddess as well as her place of residence.
As she 'travels' on the sky, she guards the elves during the day, while Vol (The Moon) guards the night.    While animals are most often associated with Volublectyth, there are some animals that are considered to be closely connected to the Sun. These are mostly birds that are active throughout the day. In addition, most plants are considered to be the creations of Solcritoel and some are even revered as sacred, most common of which are Sunflowers, which actually follow the Sun. Whilst their seeds are commonly consumed by humans, elves hold it in much higher regard and use them for religious ceremonies and rites.
