Sūhai Sanctum
Summary
An underground monastery located approximately a kilometer beneath the arena in Shimonoseki. The Hannya Sūhai have many places of worship, but this complex is particularly revered for being the final resting place of Hannya-bō, the sect's deified founder. Access to it is therefore hidden to all but those who have been granted an authentic Hannya Vizard. Upon wearing such a mask, a solid stone wall in the tunnels beneath the arena simply seems to vanish, allowing an adherent to descend a long hewn staircase to the monastery itself. A central meditation chamber and several satellite chambers comprise the entirety of the underground complex. These other halls are designated for martial training, communal dining, or sleeping quarters for the priests who staff the monastery as well as, rarely, visitors. At the end of the meditation hall, a great pair of stone doors are built into an equally cyclopean slab of rock wall. The portals seem to have been designed with a giant in mind (in itself not uncommon in Oni architecture) and are studded with six glowing white jewels. These crystals are arranged in a circular pattern and likely have some connection to unlocking the gate. The Sūhai do not, however, encourage investigation of the chamber beyond. It is said to be the tomb of Hannya-bō, who may be lying dead within, or perhaps simply meditating for millennia in true communion with his innermost heart.
