Sir

"Sir" is a honorary title of knighthood granted to a person by a head of state or representative of the monarch. Traditionally, as governed by law and custom, "Sir" is used for men titled as knights, i.e., of orders of chivalry, and later also applied to baronets and other offices.

Qualifications

  • Be a knight.
  • Graduate from Knight training(Page, Squire, then Sir) 

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Completed Knight training. Can be started at 13 but noble children become a page at the age of 7(learning about obedience, then at 14 a squire)  

Appointment

After graduating from training, the head knight announces all the graduates with the title. The new knight comes up and a knight, or other monarch like a Queen or princess(If available) with tap the candidate with the flat side of the sword. Sometimes it can be a kiss on the cheek or neck. The ceremony is usually held on holidays

Duties

Serve as an 
  • Elite fighter, 
  • bodyguard 
  • mercenary for the Royal and Noble families.
  • Sometimes participate in war.

Responsibilities

  • fight bravely and to display military professionalism and courtesy, 
  • serve their liege Lord according to the Code of Chivalry.

Benefits

Knights are usually granted their own land to govern. It would be his responsibility to collect the taxes, see that the land was handled properly and report directly to his superior. Often, his word was law. Marriage to a rich heiress, collecting not only her wealth but the possible inheritance of vast land

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The title of sir can be stripped from recipients if their behavior does not match their title. It usually is only removed from those who have been convicted of an offence, removed from professional bodies or accused of criminal behavior.
