Draketail League

The Draketail League is a confederation of five major Free-Cities and a number of smaller townships and villages situated on the eponymous Draketail Shore with the dwarven Imperium of Athas west along the Ash road, the vast Vhaakat Plains to the north and their old rivals, the Three-Waters Alliance to the east.

The Draketail League differs from most other Free-City associations by having a somewhat centralised government (mainly to present a more organised front when dealing with northern raiders and imperial embassies) made up of delegates from the five major cities and organised into a council seated in two parliamentary houses in Caer Cîafran, the Lucyngôr (lower house) and the Hicyngôr (upper house).
One of the Lucyngôr is then selected to be the 'first amongst equals' by majority vote of their colleagues and named the Àrdteyrn. The Àrdteyrn is elected every 6 years or upon the death of the previous Àrdteyrn, and by tradition must be from a different city than the last three to precede them, leading to a cycle that ensures no individual city becomes over-represented.

The current Àrdteyrn is Isolde Manaw, a human woman from Caer Cîafran.

The five cities that comprise the league, and make up their leadership, are as follows;
  • Ashcott
  • Caer Cîafran
  • Mosston

In addition to these five major settlements the league also represents the following towns as well as a number of farmsteads, villages and hamlets.
  • Chifwing
  • Brakspring
  • Ulverston
  • Tolstead

  • Caer Cîafran
Caer Cîafran is a major city and the site of the governing body of the Draketail League, representatives from all the major cities of the League convene here on matters of state. The city itself claims to be one of the oldest continually inhabited settlements in the known world, allegedly being founded in the ruins of the great city of Arkosmyre, though whether these tales hold much water is a subject for lively scholarly debate.
  • Mosston
Also called 'The City of Swirling Mist', Mosston is situated on the Sea Road on the Draketail Coast, it is a large walled city and an important trade centre. Many of the trade caravans coming overland that wish to finish their journey to the Imperium by ship, do so from Mosston or its northernly neighbour Drakestone.
The city has a higher than usual number of Lizardfolk who come from the Scalemarsh to the south, to trade the skins and meat they hunt there for the well crafted tools and weapons of the softskins.

The city's nickname comes from the mixing of the warm sea air with cold air driven north from beyond the Scalemarsh, creating swirling mists that push against the walls and cliffs that surround the city and make traversing the fens particularly tricky to those unfamiliar with the terrain. It is easy for travellers to become lost even relatively close to the walls should they stray too far from the road.
  • Drakestone
The City of Drakestone and its surrounding territory.
Drakestone is the second largest city in the Draketail League, it is situated on the Draketail Shore on the eastern coast of the Anuiran Peninsula. The city was settled when this area of Tyr was still under the hegemony of the Imperium of Athas but broke away with the rest of the Taenic Free-Cities in FA.243 during the Imperial Interregnum.
The City is protected by a professional standing force called the Greencloaks based out of the Iron Ward.
