Knowledge seekers
A group of adventures that serve The Draconic Library, the Knowledge Seekers are tasked with gathering, cataloging, and investigating all subjects, bringing them back to the library for preservation, at least that is the public image. Nowadays the Majority are Owlin or humanoid Draconics.
Origin
Legend stats that at the end of the slave rebellions, many of the world leaders sought out information about their people before the Phervian from the Draconic library, only to find massive holes in the knowledge, if it wasn't completely missing. Niomranioss, seeing the despair on several groups' faces at seemingly having no past, gathered ten of his best acolytes and found the knowledge of the lacking. Deciding to do something to remedy this, tasked each of the ten with a specific culture to find the history of, forming the first knowledge seekers, at least that's the story. In truth, even as the slave revolts raged, gaps in knowledge were being discovered, especially for races the Phervian had brought from other planes. It was at a council of Dragons, Elves, and Owlin deep within the Libary that it was decided to create a group to gather knowledge for the library to preserve, a full three decades before the story says. Various adventurers were taken on, each showing a variety of skills in which to help them gather knowledge. A vast archive was built in which to store the gathered knowledge and a secret barracks was attached.Public image
It wouldn't be until the Empire clamped down on travelers that the order's existence became public. It was actually a routine meeting between the knowledge seekers and the Keeper of Stillharbor in the early two hundred Divine that was stopped, allowing the more shadowy part of the organization to remain hidden. The order was thrust out into the light, while several groups already in the know put pressure on the Empire to acknowledge the group's neutrality and freedom of movement. The Treaty of knowledge was signed by every major faction, with it being jointly written by the Light of Akoom Zhokrol, Grand Archivists Erdoc, and Shirdan Waterbane. This has led to a very neutral attitude towards the group from the public, most not knowing they exist, and those that do tend not to care about them. The treaty is only really brought up when a member gets into trouble.Branches and duties
The whole organization is separated into various branches, each with duties they perform in the gathering and preserving of knowledge.Archivists
The largest of all groups, though it started as the smallest, the Keepers all work within the archive of the Draconic Library. Often skilled researchers and mages, they work tirelessly recording and archiving the knowledge brought in. They are also responsible for creating the living archives, and expanding the archive itself. Five Archivists are promoted to High Archivists and are responsible for dealing with requests from Loreholds. They work under the Grand Archivist who also heads up the order, his extra responsibilities include assigning members to their branch and selecting members for priority missions.Loreholds
The Loreholds are less assigned due to their talents, and more recruited according to need. The only group that is majority non-Owlin/Draconic, Loreholds are normally recruited from where the position is. Loreholds are stationed in specific locations around the world, normally important libraries, courts, and schools. From here they gather knowledge coming into the institution back to the main archive, also passing on authorized information that has been requested. They act as a go-between, and it was in fact a Lorehold that was stopped in Stillharbour.Knowledge hunters
Also known as Stalkers, these are adventurers that travel the world gathering knowledge from a variety of places, these in themselves are separated into two groups. Light hunters travel the world, joining groups of people to learn about culture, plants, animals, and various other academic subjects. They normally aren't in danger and have a larger focus on knowledge. Night hunters are the shadowy branch kept out of the public eye. Often sent to gather information that, for whatever reason, isn't easily accessible by other groups. These are true adventurers with a few of their number even being within the Rivell bards. Knowledge isn't a high priority for these members, as they are normally sent to get hard copies of knowledge rather than learn it. Though it is still a desired attribute.Legacy Seekers
A legacy Seeker is a member of a family that has dedicated several generations to the Seekers, these become legacy members with the most senior of the family bearing the title of lord within the organisation and Drake Vil. Though it isn't recognized anywhere else. When you compare what we know to what we've lost, it is a mere drop in the ocean of knowledge. We must not only preserve what we know but find any means to regain what we've lost.-Niomranioss addressing his followers after the fall of the Phervian empire.
