Ryan Family
I am a human being, so nothing human is strange to me
The Ryans are one of the oldest families in United Britannia and Hibernia and perhaps the oldest of Hibernia. Famous for their multi-generational presence in the Council, longevity in Hibernia, and wealth, the Ryans have remained a stalwart in the political and social circles of UBH.
History
The Ryans (Roman gens Reginius*) are an ancient Roman family, first recorded in the early Roman Republic. In 131 CE, the Ryans emigrated from Rome to UBH after hearing of the supposed utopia that was Ilyrium. However, the Ryans soon became disillusioned with the growing city and set out on their own to found Coria, the capital of Hibernia. Many Ryans still reside in Coria, but Cian Ryan's family reside in Ilyrium due to a dislike of Transporting every day. There have been several famous Crosses throughout history, but some of the most important are listed below.
- Caiomhe Ryan: In 398 CE, Caiomhe became the first Ryan Council member.
- Conchobar Ryan: In the 720-50s CE, Conchobar created some of the most used Psychic Magic spells used today.
- Padraig Ryan: In 991 CE, Padraig, a Council member, spearheaded a law to make education compulsory in UBH for children between 10 and 16.
- Niamh Ryan: Naimh was the first witch with Psychic Magic to open her own business in 1429, to immediate and colossal success.
- Fiona Ryan: In the 1570s, Fiona created many Elemental Magic spells still used today.
- Ronan Ryan: In 1892, Ronan, a Council member, spearheaded a law so that Nihil were not executed immediately after their Arbitrium.
Magic
The Ryans have a reputation of producing stunningly powerful witches with Psychic Magic. The family can also boast no incidences of Dark Magic, which is virtually unheard of, even with the oldest of families. The Ryans are most famous for Psychic Magic, Elemental Magic and Nature Magic. Conversely, the Ryans have very low rates of Illusion Magic and Dark Magic.
Reputation
The Ryans enjoy a reputation of respect in Ilyrium and UBH in general (especially in Hibernia). Because of their near constant presence in the Council, the Ryans are trusted and admired. Additionally, the Ryans long reputation of producing powerful Psychic witches, Ryan witches born with Psychic Magic have an immediate reputation boost.
Religion
The Ryans are very strong followers of Celtic Pantheonism and have been since just a few decades after their arrival in Hibernia.
Politics
Since the Ryans have become Council members, they have wavered between extremely liberal and liberal and have long supported communication between humans and witches. The current Ryans are liberal. The Ryans have had a member of the family on the Council since 398 CE.

Author's Notes
*I have no idea if the Roman gens of Reginius even works. Rex and Regina are Latin for king and queen and Ryan is from Irish for king, so. That's the connection. I know, it's super tenuous.
