Otherworld

A mysterious "other world" from which Àlfs, Fey Folk, Vettir and many other strange beings originate. The name 'Otherworld' comes from celtic mythology, but is now used as the general English name.
It is an entire world connected to Our World by portals commonly hidden in stone circles, ringforts or earthen mounds called Fairy Mounds.
Otherworld is mythologically know as the Realm of Gods, from which came the Tuatha Dé Danann to conquer Ireland from the Fomori, but it is also the Realm that housed Asgard, Olympus and many other realms of tribes we have come to know as "pantheons of gods".

Geography

The world of Otherworld is familiar yet strange to humans. It is a vast world so wild and untamed, that it has never been mapped. It holds vast plains, huge forests and enormous mountain ranges.

Ecosystem

To witness Otherworld is to imagine what Earth must have been like before civilization set in, but it holds much flora and fauna that is unknown to us.

Ecosystem Cycles

While less predictable than the seasons of Earth, Otherworld has seasons as well.

Localized Phenomena

Weather has a tendency to be more volatile here than we know it. Much land is uncharted simply by being haunted by permanent fog, thunderstorms, sandstorms or other extreme weather conditions.
Much of the volatiliy is attributed to the powerful flow of magic, that resides in Otherworld and is worshipped as a Force of nature, believed to have a will of its own - a will so strong, it is considered synonymous with Fate.

Climate

Like Our World there are places of scorching heat and biting cold, though the extremes of these conditions surpass anything we know.

Fauna & Flora

Some plants and animals we recognize - sparking the debate whether they originated in one world and passed to the other, while other species are completely unique to Otherworld - many of which appear to be hybrids that we recognize from old tales and medieval drawings. One such example would be the Jackalope - a rabbit with antlers.

Natural Resources

If you dare gather it, Otherworld holds an abundance of natural resources, though there are examples of punishments dealt out by mysterious lords of the land for felling the wrong tree in a forest where all trees appear the same.

History

The history of Otherworld is at least as old as the history of our own world. How they originally connect nobody can tell, and the earliest stories known are all hearsay, but different tribes have very varried tales of the creation of our worlds.
When our world is so mapped out and tamed by civilization compared to Otherworld it has been attributed to three factors:
The sanctity of nature as a core belief of the Otherworlders, still to this day.
The unearthly threats of Otherworld making expansion an incredibly daunting task.
The relative low birth rates combined with the high mortality of life in Otherworld.

Tourism

While very limited, a few settlements in Otherworld are considered safe enough for diplomatic visits as well as inviting changelings to experience their roots.
