Onureth Taoul (On-You-Reth Ta-O-Ule)
The Draconic name translates to Under City.
Demographics
There are 2,045 kobolds living within this under ground village. There are 1,695 children aged 0-5 years old. Once a Kobold reaches 6 years old they are considered an adult. There are 350 adults about evenly divided between male and female.
There is a small group of Goblins living within the village. There are currently 10 Goblins (2 females and 8 males).
There is a small group of Were Rats living within the village. There are currently 3 Were Rats (2 males and 1 females).
Everyone living within the village has agreed to be governed by the Kobold law. That being said, the different groups are generally left to govern themselves as long as they are not disrupting the Kobold village.
Government
They are ruled by a Chieftain that has a group of advisors to assist them in making the decisions for the tribe.
These advisors are those that are considered highly skilled within the tribe. Each of the advisors is given a title and is pulled from a group within the tribe in an effort to represent the interests and knowledge of all the kobolds.
Socialism
Socialism is a social and economic doctrine that calls for public rather than private ownership or control of property and natural resources. According to the socialist view, individuals do not live or work in isolation but live in cooperation with one another. The Kobolds believe that the survival of the community is more important that the survival of individual Kobolds. This belief filters into everything that they do, including the way that they share and manage resources as community property. Kobolds have a tribal society in which they all take on specialized roles that protect and sustain the tribe. The strongest kobolds are trained to be hunters and warriors, the most clever are crafters and strategists, the toughest are miners and beast-wranglers, and so on. Even a stupid or physically weak kobold is given a role in the tribe, whether something as simple as picking mushrooms for food or watching over hatchlings, and they all understand that their actions contribute to the survival of the group. Because of this every individual within the village is considered equally important because each Kobold is contributing to the essential work that must be performed to maintain the society. While they have a Chieftain that rules over them and makes decisions on the tribe's behalf regarding political and economic matters, they are not considered to be more important or more valuable then the other Kobolds. The Chieftain continues to contribute towards the work that they performed prior to being appointed as the Chieftain. It is also understood that the adults of the tribe can remove anyone from power who is not serving with the good of the tribe in mind. Since failing to hold the good of the tribe above all else is considered the greatest crime a Kobold can commit, the penalty is death.Defences
Being under ground is a defense unto itself in that it limits the access to the village. Additionally, all the levels of the village beyond the first are protected with locked doors and traps. The entire second floor of the village is a convoluted maze that is filled with traps and dead ends. The sole purpose of this is to prevent intruders from reaching the lower levels. Through out this level there are places where the Kobolds can station themselves to attack intruders. The farms and the nursery are kept on the lowest layers of the village. This is to protect their young and their food from invaders. Reaching these inner layers means having defeated all the village defenses and adults which would indicate that the village had already been lost.
Industry & Trade
Business District
The Silver Cockatrice
There is a single magical item shop within the village. This is run by a single, quirky Kobold. The focus of the shop is in magical items that aid in every day tasks, but they will buy and trade in whatever is profitable since they are also looking to earn the Kobolds money. Most of the magic items that are in the shop have been found by the Scavengers, but there are some that the Kobolds fashioned themselves. These tend to be the quirkier of the magical items found there. This shop is run by Kohsa. Prior to being forcibly relocated to Onureth Taoul, she was a traveler. She came through the Rifts into Seattle and began exploring the new place that she found herself in. Because of this, she is familiar with the city and many of the Shadow Kind factions with in the city. She is rather sesquipedalian, with a love of long words and over explaining everything. Often she will explain things in multiple languages, just to be sure that she is complete and in order to use the most accurate and precise language available to her. The problem being that she doesn't always ensure that those she is speaking to can understand the languages that she has chosen to use. She has a pair of eye brow pierces on the right side and a single piercing in the left eyebrow. She gives those who visit her shop more then once a nickname, usually based upon a notable physical or personality trait. They are not always flattering nick names. She is biased towards those who are Dragonborn or Half-Dragon or are Dragons, but she cannot imagine a Dragon ever stopping in her shop! She is biased against those who are religious in any fashion. She considers them to be foolish and the source of much misery. The shop itself is rather cluttered and dark. Many surfaces are being used for her strange chemical side projects rather then displaying the magical items for sale. Ambient noise is dampened by a magical crystal, so upon entering the shop there is a hushing despite is being open to the general market area. It gives the space an eerie quietness if one stands and looks out at the busy street.Item | Rarity | Base Price | Unfavored Price | Favored Price |

Farms and Farming
Rat's Alley
This is where the giant rats are raised as a food source. There are 11 Kobolds currently serving the village as rat handlers. They are responsible for ensuring that the rats remain safe and stay within their farming area. Each Mini Mischief is monitored by one of the Rat Handlers, meaning that each Kobold is generally responsible for about 100 of the rats. This work is difficult since the rats are often hostile and the Rat Handlers must subdue them without causing the rats significant injuries.Barrelstalk Grove
This mushroom garden is devoted to the growing of the Barrelstalk mushrooms which provide most of the food and water for the rats. There is a single Kobold, Grok, who is responsible for the growing of these mushrooms. These mushrooms have been planted so that they become ready for harvest on staggered days. This allows the farmer to do the majority of the work collecting the water, harvesting the inner pulp and breaking down the unconsumable parts for composting without assistance. If several mushrooms were to become ready at the same time, the Barrelstalk Farmer could call upon the other mushroom farmers to assist in the work. Ensuring that none of the crop goes to waste is always the highest priority.Bluecap Lane
This mushroom garden is devoted to the growing of the Bluecap mushrooms. There are two Kobolds that tend to this farm. They care for and harvest the mushrooms, bundling them up so that they can then be delivered to the bakeries for processing into flour. They spend their days climbing up and down the ladder to check upon the mushrooms, moving the ladder down the row of shelves as they go.Funguswood Forrest
This forest is the home of the newly planted funguswood that the Kobolds hope to use as a wood substitute and as another spice in their foods. For now, these mushrooms are young and have yet to reach the adult heights. These mushrooms can reach 40 feet tall, but for now there are only a few that have reach 12 to 18 feet tall. It will be years yet before these mushrooms can be harvested, but the Kobolds are planning to be in the Seattle Underground for many years yet to come. There are 2 farmers that are responsible for tending to these mushrooms. They prune them occasionally to ensure that they maintain the straight trunks desired for building. These trimmings are sent to the cooks to be used as a special occasion spice.Fungal Promenade
This mushroom farm is dedicated to growing portabella mushrooms. There are two Kobolds that tend to this farm. They care for and harvest the mushrooms, bundling them up so that they can then be delivered to the cooks to be prepared for eating. They spend their days climbing up and down the ladder to check upon the mushrooms, moving the ladder down the row of shelves as they go.Beetle Byway
There are 7 Kobolds that tend to the beetles living in this farming area. There are numerous species of beetles that are kept, each with specific needs that must be attended to. The Kobolds spend their time tending to the larvae, harvesting the beetles and ensuring that there are plenty of larvae in the next generation to continue the line. They spend their time climbing up and down the ladders, moving the bins to working areas and packaging harvested beetles for the cooks. The Pound
There are 2 Kobolds that work within the village as the breeders of the dogs for the purpose of being used as mounts and workers by the Kobolds. They raise the puppies until they are a year old and then they are given to the trainer to be prepared for the work that they will perform. These Kobolds also serve the village as the veterinarians for the dogs, tending to any that are sick or injured. It is also their duty to determine when a dog is no longer fit for work and to kill the animal. That carcass is then sent to the butcher to be processed for food.Dog Wrangler
There is a Kobold that works as a dog trainer. It is their job to teach the dogs what they need to know in order to function as proper mounts and workers within the village. They begin training the dogs when they become a year old and put them into service as soon as they are deemed ready for work. It is also their responsibility to deal with any dog that has demonstrated undesirable behaviors. It is part of their duty to determine when a dog is not fit for work due to behavioral problems and to kill those dogs to be processed for food.Jack of All Fades
With a modern setting and hip-hop tunes cranking, there is no better place to get those scales of yours scaled to perfection. It's not just a polish on the scales, It's an experience. Come on in and hang out with Jack. Dyes, stones, glitter and glam. What ever you need, Jack can get you looking your best! Jack is a brown kobold that makes a point to be a walking advertisement for his wares. Everything is about the bright and bold colors. Prior to coming to Onureth Taoul, he was a scavenger in Seattle that was doing the best that he could. Scaling was a hobby that he took up in an effort to keep himself looking good and staying happy. Now he has also made it his profession. Since he can never recall anyone's name and knows that customers generally hate being forgotten, he calls everyone "darling." He is friendly and energized, eager to please. He is biased against those that have a Cha score less than 15 and highly favors those with a Cha score of 15 or more. Within his shop, he sells items that center around improving or changing one's personal appearance. If a customer with Cha score less than 15 comes into his shop he will try to sell them Cha improving items and will become less eager to please.Item | Rarity | Base Price | Unfavored Price | Favored Price |

They are adept at identifying broken, misplaced, discarded, or leftover crafted items from other creatures that can still be put to use. They prefer to scavenge objects that have clearly been lost or thrown away, which is easy to do without attracting attention. At the same time, they don’t automatically shy away from trying to grab items that are the property of other creatures, because such objects are more likely to be in good condition and thus more useful or valuable.Rat Catchers

There are water main tunnels in the city that are beneath these 4 road ways that serve as a boundary for the village.
Water and Sewer map of Seattle
This village represents a mixture of the Shadow Kind and the Mundane worlds. Within the village there are things from both worlds present. The Kobolds take the things that they feel are the best and the most useful that are available to them. Because of this, their village has all the modern convinces that you'd expect to find in any small town such as electricity and plumbing. Yet, they have also brought their Kobold culture with them which includes many things that Mundane people would be repulsed by.
Districts
Business District
This area is where the businesses, housing and eating locations that are open to visiting groups. Within this district, money is exchanged for goods. In the other districts, those living within the village can take the goods that they need without paying for the goods as everything is considered the property of the tribe. But within the Business District, everything is paid for. The Kobolds do not spend their time here unless they are working. This is not a place they consider desirable as it has been fashioned with the comfort of other races in mind. This district is physically separated from the other districts. It is the upper most level of the village with limited access to the lower levels.Defensive Line
Just beneath the Business district, this is the second layer of Onureth Taoul. It is here that the Kobolds have put much of their defense for keeping their village safe from intruders. A maze and traps, locked doors and guards all limit the access to levels beneath this one.Working District
This area is where the businesses, warehouses and eating locations that are open to those living within the village are found. This is where the Kobolds work. They perform all of their daily labor here in the third layer of the village.Kobold District
This area is beneath the Working District, in the fourth layer of the village. This is the location within the under ground that the Kobolds are living. With in this layer are all the housing units for the adult Kobolds. There are currently 200 housing units separated into 50 unit groups called Clutches. Each Clutch has a central living area, which includes a lounge and a kitchen. There is also a public bath and toilet area for each Clutch. Their housing units are alcoves with bedding where groups of Kobolds can settle into for sleeping. These units do not belong to any individual and it is common for Kobolds to change sleeping locations depending on who they desire to spend their time with. These housing units are intended for 10 Kobolds, but it isn't uncommon for 11 or 12 to squeeze into one if they want to be in the company of that group. This area was built with the understanding that the Kobold population would be increasing over time. But, for now, there are often numerous Clutches that are empty. Were District
This district is also on the fourth layer. This area is a location within the underground that the Were Rats are living. This is considered part of the Kobold's village and they are allies with the Kobolds. They work within the Kobold community. They have a small area that includes 3 housing units, a central living area (living room and kitchen) and a bathing area (bath and toilets). However, they are still considered welcomed in the Kobold District should they desire to spend their time in those public spaces.Goblin District
This district is also on the fourth layer. This area is a location within the underground that the Goblins are living. This is considered part of the Kobold's village and they are allies with the Kobolds. They work within the Kobold community. For the most part, the Goblins work at the Goblin Nook. They have a small area that includes 20 housing units, a central living area (living room and kitchen) and a bathing area (bath and toilets). However, they are still considered welcomed in the Kobold District should they desire to spend their time in those public spaces. They have been afforded a larger living area with the expectation that the Goblin community will increase over time.Palace District
This district is also on the fourth layer. Adjacent to the Goblin District there is a small location that has been carved out for those who are members of Team 8. This area has 10 housing units. Each of these units includes a sleeping area and a work area that are larger then most of the housing units in the village. There is also a large centralized living room and kitchen. There are two bathing areas which include a bath and toilet. The walls have been fashioned to reduce the noise from adjacent areas and have been lined with wood paneling. The sleeping areas have lush carpets. In general, this area is larger then the other living areas and attention has been paid to every detail to ensure that only materials of the highest quality were used. They have also out in a great deal of effort to ensure that privacy has been afforded to this area with doors and curtains being installed.Rat Farm
On the 5th layer of the village, there is a large area dedicated to the farming of giant rats that are used as a food source for the Kobolds. There are about 1,100 giant rats being kept in this area at any given time with only about 25% being at an age that is ready for slaughtering. There are 11 separated areas that the rats are kept in, which are generally know as Mini Mischiefs. They have an area that they can roam around and space to nest for each of the smaller groups within the Mischief. Like most domesticated animals, most of these rats are female. They keep 11 male rats that they cycle through the Mini Mischiefs for breeding to keep the lines mixed. The rats are bred with a calmer temperament being favored, but this is a fairly new process so these rats are often quite aggressive towards their handlers. The rats are primarily fed mushrooms which are grown in another farm.Mushroom Farms
Also on the 5th layer of the village, there is an area that is dedicated to the farming of various types of mushrooms that are used as a food source for the Kobolds and giant rats. These mushrooms are of both the Shadow Kind and Mundane varieties of mushrooms with the bulk of the mushrooms they grow being those from the Shadow Realm Underdark since these mushrooms were cultivated to survive upon them alone. BARRELSTALK These mushrooms originate from the Underdark. A barrelstalk is a medium sized mushroom that grows up to 8 feet in height and 5 feet in diameter. They are cask-shaped fungus that can be tapped and drained of the fresh water stored within it. Its outer layers are tough and woody, but its inner flesh is edible, and its center is filled with a reservoir of water - usually from 20 gallons to 50 gallons (1d4+1x10 gallons)- that can be tapped and drained. It can be harvested for 50 pound to 100 pounds (1d6 + 4 x10) of food. The inner flesh turns black and poisonous when the barrelstalk begins producing spores, which happens after ten years of growth. They maintain about 200 of these mushrooms at all times to ensure that they have adequate water supplies. This water is largely used as a backup supply since the Kobolds prefer the taste of the water that comes from within the stone. When water is plenty, this water supply is used for animal care, bathing and washing of clothing. When water is scarce they treasure this water and use it for drinking. The food produced from these mushrooms goes towards feeding the rats. BLUECAP This mushroom is considered the grain of the Underdark. Raw bluecap fungus is inedible to humanoids, but it can be ground and processed to make a nutritious, if bland, flour. Bread made from bluecap flour is usually known as sporebread but is sometimes called blue bread. These mushrooms grow about 6 inches tall with a slender stalk with a domed cap. The Kobolds keep these mushrooms in a large farming area that is filled with shelves of growing mushrooms. Within each shelf there are growing beds that are made from the various tree barks and woods that they have been found to grow very well on. There is a ladder that moves along the rows of shelves to provide access to each bed of mushrooms. FUNGUSWOOD The Kobolds have begun a funguswood farm with the intentions of using this mushroom for a building supply in place of wood and as a spice. Funguswood is a species of huge sized mushrooms, found almost everywhere in the Underdark and commonly used as a substitute for regular wood. Many types of funguswood are known to exist and each possess distinct properties of color and flavor. The Kobolds are currently limited to just one kind of funguswood as that is the single variety of spores that they were able to acquire, but they are looking for other varieties to add to their mushroom forest. Portabella MUSHROOMS This mushroom is easy to grow, doesn't require a lot of space and thrives in the under ground environment. They can grow to have caps as large as 6 inches in diameter, but are usually harvested before they reach that size. The Kobolds keep these mushrooms in a large farming area that is filled with shelves of growing mushrooms. Within each shelf there are growing beds that are trays filled with composting material that they have been found to grow very well on. There is a ladder that moves along the rows of shelves to provide access to each bed of mushrooms.Beetle Farm
Also on the 5th layer of the village. This farm is where the beetles are raised as an additional food source. The beetles also serve to help control the waste in the the underground environment. Everything that is organic and cannot be used by the Kobolds is taken to the beetles who live off the decaying matter. The farm serves as a source of excellent fertilizer since the beetle frass (the excrement of insect larvae) can be easily mixed into the growing bins for the mushrooms. The beetle larvae are kept in plastic bins that have soil in the bottom for the larvae to live in. The refuse appropriate to the beetle type is then added to the bins for the larvae to feed upon. When they have grown into beetles, they are harvested for food and the contents of the bins are sent to the mushroom farms. These beetle bins are kept in a similar fashion as the mushrooms. Except that there is a lift system that allows the bins to be moved from the shelves to a work area where they can be filled, harvested or emptied.Dog Farm
Also on the 5th layer of the village. There is a smaller area that has been dedicated to raising dogs for the purpose of being used as mounts and working animals by the Kobolds. These dogs are currently being used for the pulling of carts more often then riding since they are few in number. The Kobolds maintain a single breeding pair at this time since that is all they require to maintain their dog population. The Kobolds maintain their dog population around 10 adults. When a dog can no longer work, it is killed for food and another dog is put into its place.Nesting District
On the inner most, 6th layer of the village is the Nesting District. This is where the females lay their eggs and where the young Kobolds are raised. It is considered the most secure part of the village and because of this, most Kobold children are not allowed to leave the Nesting District until they have come to adult age at 6 years old. This is where the 1,695 children aged 0-5 years old and the 36 adult care takers spend their time. The children are kept in 18 separated clutches built in the same fashion as the adult clutches with around 100 individual children in each Clutch. However, with the children, they are assigned to a Clutch and are expected to stay within that area unless they are given permission to visit a different Clutch. There is also a Nesting area where the unhatched eggs are kept. However, the eggs themselves need little attention.Guilds and Factions
Every Kobold is assigned to a Guild when they take up a profession within the tribe shortly after they become an adult. They are allowed to choose their own profession and work, but are assigned to a guild based upon what they choose. The only exception to this are those Kobolds that are found to have magical ability. Those Kobolds are assigned to the Mage's Guild regardless of what work they choose to perform.
Defender's Guild
This guild ensures that the Kobolds that are responsible for protecting the community are trained as well as possible and given the best equipment possible. Those who serve as the Caretakers and Guards are all assigned to the Defender's Guild.Scholar's Guild
Those Kobolds who are considered to be the educated and knowledgeable are members of this guild. This guild is responsible for keeping the tribe's records and educating the children. This includes Record Keeper, Cartographers, bards, Professors etc. Mage's Guild Kobold sorcerers are not left to discover their abilities through trial and error. Kobolds with a talent for sorcery are guided through the awakening of their abilities and directed toward specific types of magic. Entering into this calling is a deeply reverential act, surrounded with much ceremony. A kobold sorcerer is required to make lifetime vows to the Mage's Guild, not unlike swearing into the priesthood. Breaking these vows will cost that Kobold their life. Any Kobold that is noted to have the ability to cast spells is put into the Mage's Guild regardless of the line of work that they choose for themselves. This guild ensures that those who have the talent for magic are given the education that they require to develop their magical ability. If there is a Kobold that hatches that demonstrates a magical talent outside the ability of the Mage's Guild to train, it becomes their responsibility to find an appropriate teacher for them. All magical ability is considered an important and valuable skill that must be nurtured. This includes clerics.Farmer's Guild
This guild is responsible for ensuring that there is enough food for the tribe. They are also responsible for making sure that everyone with in the tribe is getting a fair share of the food that is being produced. All those working as Rat Handlers, fishers, Rat Catchers, Bakers, Butchers, Mushroom Farmers, Beetle Farmers, Hunters, Cooks etc.Merchant's Guild
This guild is responsible for ensuring that those Kobolds that are running a business are engaging in work that is valuable to the tribe and that the generated goods are accounted for and distributed appropriately. The guild is also responsible for accounting for the sales of goods to any visitors to the village and ensuring that those profits are submitted to the Accountant. This includes Fishmongers, Merchants, Restaurant Owners, Innkeepers etc. Kobold merchants are some of the most independent-minded members of the tribe, and for good reason. They spend more time above-ground than many other kobolds, negotiating with other Shadow Kind. Kobold merchants are the face of a kobold tribe in the world, and that face is one they prefer to disguise due to their general paranoia. When delivering goods to a customer, kobold merchants magically pose as members of other races, hiding behind glamers and illusions. The Kobolds aren’t ashamed of their interactions with other races, but they prefer to operate in secrecy to protect themselves. They generally consider themselves to be weaker then the other races and an easy mark for abuse. Because of this, most trading partners are ignorant of the fact that they’re dealing with kobolds, which is a testament to the guile of the kobold merchants.Trapper's Guild
This guild is responsible for the making of the traps that defend the village. Those who make these traps are part of this guild.Specialist's Guild
This guild is responsible for ensuring that those who are producing goods for the village have the resources that they require and that the goods they are producing are being appropriately distributed within the tribe. Those who work as carpenters, Furriers, Dog Breeders, Dog Trainer, smiths, the ware house, Shrubbers, Tanners, Brewer, Dyer, Leatherworkers, Masons, Saddlers, Spice Merchants, Alcohol Merchants, Apothecaries, Chemists, Enchanters, Herbalists, Jewel crafters, Alchemists, Engineers, Locksmiths, Coopers, Tailors, weaversWorker's Guild
This guild is responsible for ensuring that the general workers are given what they need to do their jobs and that they are given a fair share of the resources. Anyone not assigned to another guild is assigned to the Worker's Guild. (Scalers, Tinkers, Scavenger, Builders, Carters, Clothes Washers, Miners, Town Criers, etc..) The Guild does not over see the workers themselves. The workers are allowed to govern their own work and are expected only to seek guidance when they encounter unexpected circumstances. The Kobolds believe that workers do their best when allowed to work in their own way and to solve their own problems. This guild is respected as much as the other guilds. While they are not considered to be holders of specialized knowledge, they are considered to be just as essential in that they are completely fundamentally important work for sustaining the tribe.History
Kiggi, the founding Kobold, gathered together the Kobolds within Seattle by force and herded them down into an area underground beneath the Seattle University to establish Onureth Taoul. He chose this location because he found a young dragon there that he decided to serve. He ruled the Kobolds by force and with fear, using the threat of the dragon to keep his people in line. However, in 2146, Team 8 killed the dragon. This allowed Mashu to kill Kiggi and to take leadership of Onureth Taoul.
