Magister
The start of a long academic journey. Graduates of the Colleges of Arcenne.
A wizard who completes a basic course of study through the colleges of Arcenne graduates as a magister. At minimum, they must attend foundation and graduation courses at four of the seven colleges as well as produce their own piece of research or artifice.
In gameplay terms, this may be completed before a wizard gains their first character level as it represents them learning the basics of magic and the Weave.
Since there is a college for each school of magic - except for necromancy - the study shows which areas of magic a wizard is likely to specialise in over the course of their magical career.
A prospective magister will need have a high-magister as a patron, though this does not need to be someone that is directly involved in their studies. Often, the magister-to-be will need to help the high-magister with their own projects and research; this may involve laboratory work, gathering reagents or other menial tasks.
Appointment
A wizard who completes the required studies "graduates" and is invited to a ceremony for their diploma and the other badges of office. This ceremony is completed every two months and the location it is held at rotates through the seven colleges.
Accoutrements & Equipment
Magisters receive three items upon graduation:
- Passport - A magister carries a leatherbound passport stamped with the mark of the colleges they have studied within.
- Staff - A balanced wooden staff with a crystal orb in the top. It is not embued with an enchantment but is a representation of the work completed so far.
- Hat - A ceremonial hat styled like a cliché - a dark blue cone with a wide, floppy brim. The hat is not worn in public, instead reserved for college events.
