Avernus

Avernus, the First Hell, is the first layer of the Pit and the realm that immediately lays on the other side of the Cthtonic Gates of Tartarus. It is an almost prototypical hell of sulfurous smoke, whips and chains, distant wailing and charred landscapes. Chained with leaden chains almost comically opposite Meverab on her Lower Throne is Queen Tiamat, the archdevil here who claims the Principle of Hatred.
