Cazzeri

The Cazzerides are a highly iron and mineral rich island chain to the northwestern reaches of the Ornassi "continent", distant enough from the Palladian core to not be immediately threatened but close enough to shipping lanes and nearby Rusan to not be completely isolated. The Cazzeri people are a highly technologically advanced culture driven by the cultural synthesis between its gnomish and quickling core, and the Third World ruins they have uncovered under the obviously artificial and mysterious Shining Pillar, a great structure of reflective metal and unknown purpose. The Cazzeri are the Swiss of this world in may ways than one, keeping studiously neutral and dealing with everyone. They are also, outside of the Republican League and the pirate nations sprung in the Magnan colonies, the only thing resembling a democracy or republic. Indeed, they make decisions in giant "allthings" where everyone is invited to participate and deliberate, and use complicated systems of sortition to create an elaborate bureaucracy to manage their nation, embodied in what is called the Four Hundred and Eighty. The Ministry Evangelian and Central Dogma have some foothold here, but many of the philosopher-artificers of the Cazzerides deny the supremacy of the gods, pointing to the cycle of life and the fact that many were mortal once, making a sort of anti-theism the dominant current here. Cazzeri, like the Rusan and Ornassi, often travel to far-off places in Uskara, to seek out ruins of the Third World or ply their particular trades where they are needed.
  • Ancestry: Primarily gnomes and quicklings, though goblins have a growing disgruntled minority that is slowly winning acceptance even by the gnomes.
  •
  • Starting Languages: Low Talirean, Cazzeri
  •
  • Cultural Weapons: Hooked hammer, flickmace, jezzail, polytool, pepperbox. Cazzeri weapons are bizarre and complicated, and they have always defended their rocky shores by unorthodox means. The jezzail however is the finest firearm in Uskara and is highly sought out by sharpshooters across the world. It is a smoothbore rifle that is not mass produced but instead is bespoke to each wielder, a Cazzeri cultural tradition that is often tied to one's coming of age.
