The Cloudlands

The Cloudlands refers loosely to the space between the surface of the Terrestrial World and the sphere of the Third Heaven Sumeru, which is suffused with the Misty Mantle. Like the Empyrean, it is sometimes mistakenly used as a synonym for the Mantle, but the Cloudlands is a place while the Mantle is an esoteric force. Simply put, the Cloudlands is the atmosphere, and as it gets closer to Sumeru it thins more and more and intermingles with the inky mass of the Starry Mantle. Because it is mostly empty, few things inhabit it, but cloud giants famously made their citadels up here, many of which were later conquered by the elves of the Stellar Rosades. The Commonwealth exerted for centuries dominion over the skies, but have recently become challenged by the Condor Khans, as the aaracockra believe the Cloudlands to be their birthright. The Sky Caravanserai of the fetchlings also travel the Cloudlands, not unlike their distant cousins the Rodkhora.
