The Empyrean
The Empyrean refers both to the "inner heavens" within Sumeru, but also the manifestation of Good that seeped into the Firmament during the Second World, or perhaps even earlier. As humanity and their draconic overlords mastered their Will, it began to manifest new Principles of Good and Evil. Good was embodied in the Empyrean, while Evil was embodied in the Pit. While some mistakenly equate the Empyrean with the Starry Mantle, the Empyrean is actually visible as the various "distant" galaxies and constellations in the sky. Indeed, while the Mantle represents the inky sky filled with energetic potentialities, the Empyrean fills it with the stars of the sky. There are three distinct manifestations of the Empyrean: the Zodiac, the Galaxy, and the Aurora.
The Zodiac is a belt of constellations across the Mantle that resemble fauna of the Terrestrial Sphere, at least by human reckoning, and is the origin of the agathions. They are also the source of the zodiac signs in Uskaran astrology. The Galaxy is the furthest reaches, tied together by a milky haze, where the furthest limits of the spatial warping Mantle are occupied by many thousands of stars, each a petty heaven, the origin of the azatas. Finally, the Aurora manifests as brilliant curtains of light that filter about the Heavens, origin of the angels, sometimes even pushing through the Mantles and being visible in the sky, especially around the eternal twilight of the Gloaming.
