Chiron Station
Chiron station is a small research station located along the Federation-Romulan border in close proximity to the Hellsmouth Nebula that borders the Typhon Expanse . A premature stellar supernova resulted in a cloud of volatile gases tens of light-years in diameter that constantly ignite in millennia long plasma fires. The nebula was completely unexplored due to this extremely hazardous nature and a science station was set up to study the phenomenon further.
In 2376 an Unknown Alien Dreadnaught was able to penetrate the Nebula creating a stable subspace path through the hazard and into the Typhon Expanse. Given its new strategic importance Chiron Station is in the process of being upgraded to handle a potential wave of expansion similar to what happened with Deep Space 9 after the discovery of the Bajoran Wormhole.
