Ens. Lou Mendola
Lou Mendola was a junior engineering officer serving on the NX Atlantis. In 2370 he was killed by an extradimensional alien that absorbed him and took his place on the crew.
In 2156 the NX Atlantis was caught in a temporal rift that caused the crew to experience such severe time dialation that after hundreds of years from an outside observer only a few years had passed inside the ship. During this time the crew brought on board an alien lifepod. The alien inside absorbed one of the crew triggering a panic. The crew quickly realized the being was a shapeshifter and with theories of it being some kind of Romulan attack the crew devoled into paranoia and accusations. Sometime during the confusion, the extradimensional alien absorbed Lou Mendola assuming its identity and integrating its memories.
"Mendola" successfully ingratiated himself to Lt. Cmdr. Phillips and her engineers, using his advanced scientific knowledge to quietly keep the ship intact and researching the effects of the quantum drive that brough him to this dimension and caused the gravimetric wormhole that had captured the ship. In 2376, "Mendola" discovered that his malfunctioning drive would continue to cause the wormhole to expand eventually threatening all life in both dimensions. He resolved himself to sacrificing the Altantis and its crew to stop the drive but before he could carry out his plans, an away team from the USS Nightingale arrived and were able to bring a shipment of quantum torpedoes that could be safely detonated to destroy the device. At the same time the Nightingale pulled a majority of the Atlantis to a safe distance. "Mendola" was able to explain that he was just a peaceful scientist and this was all just a science experiment gone awry. He thanked the crew for the rescue and then took a shuttle through the wormhole to return to his home dimension.
