Deadlands

"Smoke lulls up to a cloudy roof, blood stone jagged, haggard, powdered rocks above poison pools. Hard beds of choking dirt and stench, a springless, dead land fire-blasted obscene and cruel."
— excerpt from The Red Sea, a Delfir poem about the center of the Deadlands.   A vast desert sweeping from northern Evoria and northeastern Rerya into a red sand peninsula of devious and ancient importance. Here the dragons are said to dwell, whatever is left of them. The dragonborn and Delfir live here with their various desert animals. The land is almost entire inhospitable and deadly within minutes in certain places.   A familiar and safe hub near the Deadlands is Oasis on the border of the Evorian Wasterlies. Many merchants and traders come to Oasis to deliver goods or as a way-stop to Hlee. Delicacies, grains, and fruits come to the Deadlanders from Oasis.   In the second and third era, Elves from Rerya migrated to the border, preferring the dry desert to the humid forests. The elves here developed from high elves and wood elves into their own distinct ethnicity, Delfir, desert elves. These desert elves took their raptors and developed Chakaraka, a desert raptor species.   At this time the dragonborn reigned, keeping to themselves and focused on honing their warcraft before sullying forth on the warpath. Their dragon gods and their king, Cryonita, ruled fiercely.

Tame South

Southern Deadlands are close to human Evoria and elven Rerya. A collection of sand dunes stretch across most of this section with rocky bluffs penetrating the sand in concentrated clumps. Though not so deadly or hot as elsewhere, it is relatively sparsely populated due to the pervasive hills and lack of soil.

Blessèd West

The most habitable and flourishing region of the Deadlands, the West allows vegetation to grow in small clusters as the water table is high here. The West Run, as it is also called, is home to several animal species such as antelope, crocodile (near the shores of the Biterli Coast), rodents, and chakaraka, The hurfil here let their herds graze on the simple shrubs, migrating year-round. Chauntea is typically worshipped.

Shattered East

Stretching from Oasis to the shores of the Taz'mattan Sea lie the rocky plains and fissures of Eastern Deadlands. Sand and smooth dunes are replaced with fierce mountains and hills of hot stone. Cliffs, crags, spires, and mesas of blasted red rock are the only sights to behold until the shores, where the land falters down to lapping waves.

Treacherous North

With trepidation do any dare to march beyond the rocky Yeffalinga mountains. An age ago these brown and black mountains were tamed by Seljüdi, but now none dare go past them. Beyond the Yeffalinga lie the once splendid empire of Seljüd now a home of dragons, it is said.
