Todmorden

Demographics

A poor farming community of human, halflings and half-elves.

Government

The hamlet has an elected mayor, voted on once a year by the entire populace of the town over the age of ten. Members of the same family have held the office for two generations. The current mayor is Jenna D'Arcy

Defences

There is a loose "militia" of sorts consisting of a half dozen of the more eager youths of the settlement led by a former guard from Cerulea Maxima called Derek Shieldhand.

Industry & Trade

Most of the inhabitants farm vegetables on small patches of arable land.

Infrastructure

The hamlet sits on the edge of a swamp and there is an herbalist's workshop that gathers common and rare herbs and plants from the swamp. There is a small smithy and a small tavern that doubles as the meeting hall.

Assets

Todmorden has few assets remaining, having recently paid a group of adventurers to deal with a problem with the local wildlife.

Guilds and Factions

The D'Arcy family founded Todmorden a couple of generations back and have been consistently elected as mayor of the hamlet ever since.

History

Todmorden has had a quiet history. In 1000, local wildlife started acting unusually when a Lycanthropy settled in the area and gathered a herd of wild boar around him. Around the same time, a retired adventurer named Osborn Argent settled in the village, causing a disturbance when his son, Gustav Argent, inadvertently polymorphed himself into a giant frog. The Cerulean Exploration Society was hired to deal with both matters and were successful, although they lost one of their members in the process.

Architecture

Most of the village consists of wattle and daub buildings on small plots of arable land. The only two story structure is a wooden house belonging to the D'Arcy family. The small smithy is little more than a covered firepit with smith's equipment kept in the tavern at night. The tavern itself is little more than a large common room with a storage cellar.

Geography

Todmorden is surrounded on two sides by swamp that eventually leads in to a nearby lake. It is a rather barren location fit for growing root vegetables, some foothills are barely visible to the northeast on a clear day.

Natural Resources

The swamp in rich in common herbs and plants, but also hides some rare plant life at different points of the year.
