Vrihgigo
The island province of Vrihgigo lies north of the Opristan Peninsula and is the second largest island in the Gamrior Sea after Taruel. It was its own nation state for the majority of its history, ruled from the only city on the island, Cesegento. In 810, it joined with Vruchainad as a protectorate of the more powerful kingdom, but maintained its own system of government and a large degree of autonomy over its own affairs.
It has been metaphorically compared to a "micro-continent" due to the island's diverse ecosystems, which include mountain ranges, wooded and open areas, stretches of mostly desert territory, streams, and rocky shorelines, as well as extensive sandy beaches. Numerous travelers and authors have lauded the grandeur of the country's long-untouched landscapes, and it's easy to see why when you visit the interior of the island, which has remained largely uninhabited with the population sticking largely to the coastal regions.
The island is split into five provinces, each being ruled by its own appointed Governor. The five Governor report to an elected Prime Minister who oversees a parliamentary body consisting of citizens drawn by lot from the population at large every two years. The Prime Minister serves an eight year term and is ineligible to run again once their term is over. Any Vrihgigic citizen can run for Prime Minister but, in practice it is only Vrihgigo's richest citizens who are able to mount a successful campaign for the office.
