Adamantine
Known as the hardest substance in the world of Valnoagawa, it is able to take extreme punishment and is used to make several tools and items that need that level of durability. The main use by most individuals is to make weapons and armor that are of almost magical nature and a good base for which to set further enchantment. But this has not stopped people from attempting to use in various other processes to try and obtain more use from it.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Metal is black, unless shined on with a magical light at which point it turns lustrous green. Ore is jet black.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Metal is nigh indestructible and extremely hard to work once it has been smelted. When used to create any weapon or armor, they are considered magical for the purposes of bypassing damage resistances or immunities, but only the armor is actually considered magical.
- Weapons: Though not magical, each weapon is considered a +1 weapon for rolls to hit & damage. When used against structures/objects each hit is considered a Critical Hit for the purposes of damage. Additionally, when a Critical Hit is scored in combat it destroys a single nonmagical item on the struck entity (e.g. weapon/shield/armor).
- Armor: Doubling the weight of any armor it is added to or made into, it turns all Critical Hits into Normal Hits. Additionally, they all impose Disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth).
Compounds
Adamantine is used in very few compounds with other metals to strengthen them and prevent degradation. Several more attempts have been made to try and mix it for common day uses and mundane uses that benefit more people than just as weapons/armors.
Geology & Geography
Found in the oldest of meteor impact sites and deep within the mountains that have been in existence for millennia on Valnoagawa.
Origin & Source
The metal is crafted by smelting the ore known as Adamant into its metal form.
Life & Expiration
Stable and does not deteriorate over a known time frame.
History & Usage
Discovery
First discovered by Dwarven Smith's when exploring veins of minerals for their usefulness in the early days of the history of the world known after the GodFall.
Everyday use
It is used to create nigh indestructible components, utensils, weapons, & armors.
Refinement
Smelting of ore into ingots and cast molds as it is hard to smith into shape otherwise afterwards.
Manufacturing & Products
Armors/Weapons/Components for which weight is not an issue.
Reusability & Recycling
Once forged, the process cannot be reversed without a use of a enchanted smelter/furnace or similar magics to reset the bonding of the metal itself.
Distribution
Trade & Market
The metal is sold mostly by Dwarven merchants and various smiths that use it and craft with it. It appears in most markets across the known world despite the rarity as it is regularly mined and sought out for the wealth it can bring. A single ingot weighs about ten pounds and sales for roughly 50 Gold Kratocracy Gilding.
