Ayonor

Built in the Plains of the Damned, Ayonor is home to those Ilaen that wish to cut all ties with their elders. Far from the reaches of the Evergrove government, they rule themselves with different laws and embrace multicultural customs from the peoples they fought side-by-side with during the war.   Heavily influenced by Human architecture, the houses and structures across Ayonor would be a better fit within Marka's borders than Nivasa's. There are several taverns and brothels throughout, making the town appear at first glance to be a landlocked pirate harbor instead of an Elven enclave.   Still, there is a wealth of academic pursuit which occurs within its walls. The emphasis is on the development of Floranecromancy. Still in its infancy, development is slow and side effects many, but the Ilaen are committed to reviving the forest.

Customs and Cultures

Ayonor started as a group of orphaned Elves, and as such the idea of a family has nothing to do with a bloodline. Instead, their loyalty and love for one another stems from a shared sense of loss. Their singular purpose of reviving Evergrove Forest unifies them, and anyone who suggests tempering that purpose for any reason will find themselves outcast and ignored.   It is customary in Ayonor to bring gifts of revived plants to one another for birthdays, anniversaries, and other celebratory events. Those unpracticed, incapable, or unwilling to perform Floranecromancy will find it incredibly difficult to earn the trust and respect of Ayonor's citizens. This alienation has made the village cultish in the eyes of Evergrove and much of Astagua.
Feigning the use of floramancy by bringing just any bouquet of flowers is a bad idea. Flora restored through those rituals have a unique faint smell to them: a bizarre blend of sulfur and lavender.   While subtle, the Ilaen - particularly those from Ayonor - are intimately familiar with the smell.

Exclusive Education

Even though the Elves first learned of Floranecromancy from the Iaak, Ayonor is the only place in Vals'kar to learn how to perform its rituals. The original teacher vanished during the war, and its teachings relied on the few Elves that took his lessons to heart.   If the identity of the original teacher is known, it is not common knowledge. Instead, the chieftain of Ayonor, a fierce Elf called Salara, is now considered the master of the art. She is willing to teach others of the craft but not before testing both their resolve and dedication to the cause.   Of note is that while druidic rituals focus on the creation of life, the Ilaen have no interest in that; they aim to bring back what was lost, not replace it with something new.
