Welcome to the development log for Valtena! This is a way to keep track of the progress I've made on the world.

October 2024

Spooktober

I've definitely been a little burnt out after summer camp, and I needed a break from writing in general. Spooktober, however, was just the kind of event I needed to get myself back in the swing of things and start building up the creativity I'll need for NovelEmber and WorldEmber to round out the year. You can find my Spooktober progress here, and I'm happy to say that I was able to write something for all the prompts. One day, the articles will get properly fleshed out.

Next Month Plans

Next month, Articles Anonymous will be hosting a new event called Article Roulette. I've also been quite busy with 4thewords, a writing game where you fight monsters by writing. I was introduced to it by Cato last year for World Ember, and it's been amazing for just getting me to write consistently in general. I'm definitely going to be using it to get through Novel Ember and World Ember this year. I'm also going to try and finish off a few articles I've started writing but haven't yet finished before I tackle more stubs. The primary articles to finish writing next month are: Oresea Salros, Scrimshaw, Shipping Magical Items and Materials, Minarett Publishing, and Valtena.

August 2024

OMG! I can't believe that one of my articles actually won! Marstein Pottery Company v. Falcon Wagon Lines was picked for the conflict prompt about change! There were some other amazing articles, and the competition was definitely stiff. I had a blast writing this, and it was so much fun to consider how to incorporate freight claims which I do for a living into my world. You can also find the Summer Camp 2024 Reading Challenge and some other great articles that were written for summer camp.

July 2024

Summer Camp!

Summer Camp is by far my favorite big event in the World Anvil calendar. I love the prompts and the challenge to create. This year, I was going for all 42 prompts, and I can definitely say I managed just under the wire. Work was really busy and hectic, so I couldn't devote as much time to writing as I wanted to. Summer Camp 2024 Prompts is where you'll find all the articles I wrote for this year. It was definitely rough at the end, but there's plenty in there for me to chew on and flesh out later.

June 2024

The main goal of this month was to get back into the swing of writing and worldbuilding. A lot was going on in real life, and my overall mood was quite low for a few months, so it was hard to keep up with things. Primarily, I was working on Summer Camp Prep because July is easily my favorite month in the WA calendar. As usual for me, I wanted to try and answer all the prompts. Other than that, I was busy hashing out a few stray ideas as they came to me, but nothing really completed as far as polished articles go.

December 2023

World Ember 2023

Articles Anonymous

Special Shoutouts!

This month, there have been a bunch of amazing worlds on display for World Ember, and it's been incredible getting to see what everyone is coming up with! However, I'd like to take a moment for some of the worlds from Articles Anonymous (and this includes Kingdom of America which was featured last month). Please take a look at these beautiful and awesome worlds!

November 2023

This month has been very busy getting ready for World Ember! Each week, I've been working on my homework in preparation for writing 10,000 words between Valtena and Dinosaur Country. December is going to be a month of working on foundational articles for the world which primarily consists of species and deities. Throughout this month, I've been working on a few articles which had too much information to qualify for World Ember as stubs. So far, I've finished the content for Ril, Amel, and Human. There are still a few days left before World Ember, so I'm going to keep working on a few more articles just so I don't lose momentum. You can follow along with my World Ember progress here!

A New Theme!

One of my biggest goals with Valtena has been to develop it enough to warrant investing in a custom theme. I absolutely love the premade themes available, and the Deven Rue theme worked well for many years. But now, with many thanks to my good friend Spleen, Valtena is looking all fresh and shiny with new custom css! Also, I've given the homepage a bit of a cleanup to make it easier to navigate and highlight the articles I want to show off.

Articles Anonymous

As a way to connect with more people in the World Anvil community, I'm working on starting up a new chapter called Articles Anonymous. The goal of Articles Anonymous is to encourage writing and adding to your world (preferably with as many articles as possible). It's a support group for anyone who has a problem passion for article creation. I also have plans to host chapter wide challenges to make more articles that spark inspiration, finish up the old stubs that are collecting dust, and challenge members to link back to what they've already created. Right now, Articles Anonymous is only an Aspiring Chapter until it reaches 10 members (currently at 6 as of 26 Nov). If this sounds like something you're interested in, head on over to the World Anvil Discord! There's a forum post in #looking-to-collab to express interest and find out more.

There are a ton of awesome creators on World Anvil who all deserve a bit of recognition and cheer! For each update, I plan on highlighting just a few worlds I've enjoyed discovering and checking out. Please give these amazing people some love for all their incredible work and creativity!

Sweet! This kind of thing is what I was hoping to accomplish with the "Terry's Miscellaney" Category/articles, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the log format.
