Jahar's Descent
Legends say that during the Godwar, the people of Ithicus sided with Jahar, and were punished for their misplaced allegiance. When Jahar was banished to the underworld, the entire city was dragged down into the sea, tearing a hole in the fabric between this world and the one below. Both the event of the fall, and the resulting deep void are known as Jahar's Descent.
Recent archaeology states that the destruction of Ithicus was actually much later, occurring closer to the time of Pereon's conquest north. This theory posits that Jahar was already banished at this time and that the destruction of the island was caused by cultists who were attempting to free the banished god. If this theory is true, it could mean the legendary Heroes of Ithicus may have actually existed, and should be credited with preventing the release of the dark god Jahar, despite the resulting destruction of the island.
Regardless of the cause, today, terrible sea monsters pour from this void, making the seas near Vandrius a terrifying place. The Tritons of Natathys have dedicated themselves to protecting the world from these terrors.
