Guele used to be a lowly salesman in Ashfield, selling his wife's jewelry work.- Ilfreen Morgault, deceased before becoming a House noble, mother of Valeris and wife to Guele. Was a master goldsmith.
- Valeris Morgault, daughter of Guele and Ilfreen and partially raised on the streets of Ashfield before being taken into wealth in Hero’s Rest. Missing an arm from a Lost attack while on the road as a child.
Public Agenda
House Morgault is intent on serving the Empire. They do everything in their power to aid the other Great Houses and work on the goals of the great nobles that make up the Empire's hierarchy. This usually lends toward gold-lending and making deals to get things done.
Assets
Due to the lack of land, Morgault could be considered by far the poorest House, even compared to young and small Houses. Guele is low born and he has only recently gained possession of a Keep. But Guele has played the game well and is more akin to a great, golden bank. He possesses abundant wealth from various dealings and is one of the most powerful people in the Empire.
History
House Morgault has only been recently established in 495AW, and they are still in the process of settling in Drakis Hold. Before that, family of Guele were all low born, farmers and merchants one and all. To understand Morgault's history, the history of House Drakis must be read.
Guele Morgault had a good life in Ashfield, living with his wife who made masterful works of gold in the forms of jewelry. Guele was a salesman, and sold his wife's trinkets for great profit. They were both very good at what they did. They had a little daughter, and everything was going good. Then, the Inferno of Souls happened, and Ashfield went into a depression, caused by the failing Sir Gorlanor Drakis, coward of the Inferno. He ran the town into the ground, and Guele's family found themselves out on the street, living off vermin and moldy bread. They were sickly, dying, unable to work like all their neighbors and friends, who were dying in the dozens. Eventually, Guele decided that they had to do something drastic. They fled Ashfield on foot, by themselves, to try and get to Hero's Rest, the capital city of the Empire. Stone Labyrinth was slightly closer but they would not be able to navigate it. Once they were in Hero's Rest they would be okay.
When almost there, they were attacked by a wandering Lost beast, and Guele could not protect his family. Valeris lost her arm, Ilfreen was killed, and then Guele was scarred right before he brought the beast down. Doing so absorbed his wife’s soul into him. Guele now lives under the weight of his dead wife, feeling responsible for her death and failure to protect her. He does not mind and uses the constant effort to keep his mind from snapping as a way to hone his political skills. He gets Valeris to Hero’s Rest and they are patched up by a doctor on the street who does so without pay and for compassion. Valeris wakes, and Guele tells her that Ilfreen died, but he killed the Lost from a distance, so her mothers soul rose up and rests in The Burn, lying to her. The doctor that patched them up became Guele’s only friend, and as he gained power in court, has paid her back highly for saving Valeris’ life on that day. This doctor is now his assistant and only friend, and her name is Sebiloena. Once arriving in Hero’s Rest, Guele sold all his wife’s jewelry to buy a job as a lower attendant to an Iron House. He sold information and made relationships with nobles, all the while working both with and against their adversaries, playing the nobles like pieces on a game board. He became known as the guy that nobles would go to when they needed help formulating a plan, be it economical or otherwise. He helped nobles gain power, and they paid him handsomely. He could afford a tutor for Valeris, and to properly feed and clothe her.
Later, when Guele found Sir Gorlanor still alive, the reason for his wife's death and his daughter's crippling, Guele was almost overwhelmed with anger. But he contained it, and decided to get his revenge as slowly and sweetly as possible. Guele befriended the noble, acting compassionate and wanting to help. Gorlanor heard about Guele's great reputation and gratefully accepted. The two became fast friends and Guele helped Gorlanor pick himself up, avoid gambling and start to renew the honor of his House. Using the Drakis name, they began construction of a great Keep in the outer parts of Hero's Rest for Gorlanor to take as his seat as Ashfield had been filled and saved by House Courage. When Drakis Hold was finished construction, Guele brought Gorlanor there to show him. Guele showed him the dungeons below, and ambushed the younger man, chaining him up against the Wall. There, he kept Gorlanor for months, forcing him to feed off skinny rats and discarded foot scraps from above, like his family had to during the depression. He kept this all secret from the nobles and most importantly Valeris. Guele finished his stage one plans, and went to his friends on the Emperor's Council, claiming that they were in dire need of financial help. He had looked over everything they had asked him to, and the Empire was about to financially collapse. He needed more authority if he were to save the Empire (much of what was causing this financial collapse -real as it was- was caused by subtle schemes of Guele himself to make himself more needed). The nobles saw the catastrophe about to happen and went to the Emperor, Leocius the Ivory. All agreed to grant Guele the title of Duke and to give him a seat on the Emperor's Council, making Drakis Hold is dukedom. Doing so would give him authority to save the Empire, which he did. Now he has moved on to the second stage of his plans, which required a seat on the Emperor's Council...
