Broadoak-Wells

Demographics

Broadoak-Wells consists of the majority of the wealthiest inhabitants of in Arcanis, as it is the location where the city originally started hundreds of years ago. Many members of Arcanis nobility live here, and the quality of life is very high.

Defences

Broadoak-Wells is surrounded by the walls of Broadoak-Wells Castle, but is also protected by well-trained guards. There are also a number of siege engines, in the event of a full-scale attack.

Industry & Trade

Broadoak-Wells is home to a large number of well educated citizens, and has a high demand of high-skill jobs. This helps the district grow and prosper, especially due to the good schools and universities in Arcanis, many of which are in fact located in Broadoak-Wells. There is a very low amount of primary and secondary sector jobs, as there is a main focus is on tertiary sector jobs.

Infrastructure

Arcanis' infrastructure is known for being very good, however Broadoak-Wells excels in quality. Due to the large wealth of the citizens, high levels of taxes are paid which in turn is invested into the city's infrastructure. The roads are very well made and there is a large number of beautiful foliage. The public transport in the city is also particularly good, having a number of busses that always run on time.

Assets

Broadoak-Wells is home to one of the largest banks in Arthuria, that being Goldenhoard. The bank is located right opposite the central plaza, and has a very useful role in the city. The bank provides loans to many of Arcanis' members, and invests in local businesses.

Guilds and Factions

It goes without saying that most of the guilds that are found all throughout Arcanis are found in Broadoak-Wells, but there are in fact a number of small factions that exclusively exist in Broadoak-Wells. The most notable example of this is the Golden Fox bankers guild, which is responsible for the high number of banks within the district. Broadoak-Wells also houses many of the headquarters of Arcanis' guilds.

History

The name Broadoak-Wells comes from the origin of the city. In the centre of the district's walls there is a natural spring, and when the city was founded the spring was converted into three wells. These wells were for the commoners, the nobility, and the animals. Peasants were only permitted to use the animal's well. During the year -243 P.C, there was a huge push in the equality in the district, and to mark the equal rights that were earn't, the three wells were converted into one aqueduct. By this point the third well was rendered obsolete anyway, as agriculture had moved outside the city's walls to what would become the main body of the city. The circular aqueduct was built around a large oak tree, and over time, as the place ended up becoming just one district in what would become the grand city Arcanis, the district was named Broadoak-Wells.

Tourism

Many people enjoy visiting Broadoak-Wells due to the historic buildings from the city's history that are located there. One of the most popular places to go to is Broadoak-Wells Castle, and their public library, museum and winery. A number of other building are quite popular amongst tourists, including the original Broadoak Bank, the museum of Arthurian history, and a number of guild headquarters and production facilities give tours. The most popular of which is the district's winery and brewery.

Architecture

Most building are made of high-quality stone, with many beautiful engravings and other decor that can be found on the buildings. Most building are very sturdy and well built, and have lots of expensive features such as pillars and grand arches.

Geography

The district is on a somewhat steep hill, and in general the higher up the hill, the more valuable the land. There is also a canal called the canal Menendez, named after one of the first rulers of Broadoak-Wells castle, Menendez Armstrong.
