Irilaq

Irilaq is the largest city in Anaya, located in the western lowlands on the River of Tongues. It is controlled by the blue dragon Tazatereq. It’s also the home of Choran University, the center of Anayan scholarship.

Demographics

Irilaq is a diverse city, home to many humans, intiss, oreads, goblinkind, and rarer folk. It is a hub of trade and immigration and humans from other countries, even Xantos, can be found in decent numbers on its streets. As in most of the provinces, wealth inequality is high and the city's districts tend to segregate citizens based on class.

Government

As the capital of Gal-Tazatereq, Irilaq is ruled by the dragon Tazatereq and administered by Dragon Cult officials. Its government is unremarkable among the provinces, neither limiting citizens' freedoms a notable amount nor making great efforts to combat inequality and corruption.

Defences

Strong walls ring the central palace and divide the districts. The fringes of the city are dotted with guardposts.

Infrastructure

The city is divided into nine districts, with the ninth at the center and housing Tazatereq's palace, the Beacon, as well as administrative and judicial buildings. The nearby 8th District is home to the wealthiest citizens, 7th is home to Choran University, and 6th to many historic and commercial buildings. The remaining five districts are used for residence, industry, and commerce, with 5th District in particular serving as an immigrant ghetto.

Guilds and Factions

The Albatross Guild is active in Irilaq and local activities are headed by Sithrin.

Architecture

Most buildings are constructed of wood and covered with plaster. Many display the hexagonal rooms that are traditional in western Anaya.

Geography

Originally built on a solitary hill in Anaya's western lowlands, the city has grown well beyond its original site and the riverside districts in particular are prone to flooding. The import of water-hungry djeroa trees has helped to drain the surrounding marshes and create solid ground suitable for agriculture.
