The Empress
The Empress
Little is known of the Empress short of the legends told throughout the Empire, but she is adored by those that know her and many in Sab Dubar. She regularly passes beyond the walls of the upper quarter, spending much of her time in the poor quarters of the city, helping those that have no one and nothing. Though there are risks from the Grey Moon, she continues to help the needy and poor with much of her time and wealth. It seems though the Grey Moon hate the idea of an Empress and would wish to see her disappear, any that have met her cannot hate the woman she is.
It is told that Iliata Sassa was born to a simple farming family on the northern borders of Sabal . Though their soil was imported from Alenia and grown in terraced pots, they still grew enough to feed her family and some of the less fortunate in the village. Once The Emperor passed through the village on a diplomatic mission to Alenia and stopped for the night, setting up a camp, grand by the locals standards but not by The Emperors, for he likes to travel swiftly and without the pomp.
He strode amongst the villagers, greeting them as if had known them for eons, coming to Iliata's house and knocking, as if he knew exactly where he was going. He knocked and asked her to be his wife the moment he saw her, so intense was his love for her. She like him felt the attachment immediately, though wished to get to know him first. And for over a year the Emperor stopped amongst the village on his errands for the kingdom, stealing whatever time he could away with Iliata, until eventually she agreed to wed him.
Whatever connected them was special, for in the 180 years before he met Iliata, The Emperor had no children and no heirs, but after they came together, they have now had 31 children, and whatever spark resides within The Emperor seems to have kindled within Iliata, for that woman of the northern village has now lived to 120, with no change to her features. And this gift they possess has passed to their children, who seem blessed with longevity and unnatural strengths.
