High Priestess Nelma Jacaranda
Nelma Jacaranda is the mother of Nessa Jacaranda, the main character of "A Fairy Out of Her Tale" and the High Priestess of Pindaiba.
Nelma fell in love with Jurandir Andiroba while still a teenager. She was already in the service of the Mother Deity by then, and wanted nothing more than to become High Priestess, the highest spiritual position any and all Fairies could ever achieve. However, only people who have already given birth are eligible for the position, so Nelma arranged with Jurandir that they would have a child as soon as they became officially adults.
And so, when Nelma was 21 years old (fairies became adults at age 20), she gave birth to Nessa. She got married to Jurandir and did what she could to fast-track her career into High-Priesthood. She got the position two years later and has served as a well-loved good spiritual guide for her community ever since.
Unfortunately, just as Nelma's life prospects were beginning to sound too good to last, she received the news that her partner and father of her child had been taken by demons. She tried to organise a search party for Jurandir, to pray to her Mother Deity to return her beloved to her, but her efforts bore no fruits.
Nelma eventually recovered from the trauma of losing her beloved in such a horrible way. She married a slightly younger man named Morumpi Jacaranda and a few years later had a son with him. She named the child Oraci, after one of her other lovers (called Araci).
Once again, just as Nelma thought her life could not be going any better, she comes home from the New Year celebration to find her beloved partner dead at the hands of her own daughter. She wastes no time in banishing Nessa from [Floresfada] and warning all fairies in the region that a disgraced fairy could be heading her way.
Nelma is now trying to rebuild from yet another trauma, but she has faith that her Mother Deity would not give her any challenges she is not able to overcome, so she believes she will one day learn to ignore the hollow feeling in her chest left by the loss of three dear family members.
Relationships
History
Morumpi and Nelma met when they were still children. Morumpi's parents worked around the Grand Temple where Nelma was studying to serve the Mother Deity. They became good friends, and Morumpi was there when Nelma married his cousin Jurandir. Their feelings for each other changed from friendship to romance only after Morumpi's parents died. They became a couple, got married, and eventually had a child together.
