Volatyen

Founded 54 years ago by a fleet of ships with the goal of colonising a large island scryed by wizards. Quickly coin was gathered and colonists were recruited until the day of the voyage arrived, the fleet set off gaining a surprise addition of a war ship along the way. Tragedy struck in the form of a storm that sank the flag ship with the ruling nobility and the mages charged with constructing a teleportation circle on board, leading to a collapse of the leadership. Luckily order was regained under the command of four warship captains who pressed on to find a bay upon which the fleet made landfall, and quickly began with the unpacking of supplies and construction of the city of Volatyen which has grown significantly over the years.    The city is infrequently attacked by Gnoll and Orc tribes, which have been reinforced by renegade citizens of the city, the Volatyen Military keeps them away. Every so often a person goes missing and the search party returns empty handed leaving nothing but rumours.    Now the city is divided into two main parts, the High District; home to the nobility, the wealthy, merchants and the finest craftsmen on the island. The settlement of Outwall lines the walls of the High District and caters for the common folk, the poor and anyone not looking to attract the eyes of the council.

Demographics

A melting pot of races and religions, it is not uncommon to pass a handful of species on a stroll to the market.

Infrastructure

The High District was well constructed and heavily fortified by the Dwarven stoneworkers in the early years, Lavish manors, and townhouses line the streets. Outside the wall the building reflect the haste at which the city grew, ranging from timber and brick duplex's to lumber shacks and farmhouses.
