Assassin's Dagger

Assassin's Daggers are rare magical items produced and used by the Assassins Guild. Though they come in many styles and disguises, they all share one property; when the knife is removed from its sheathe, it emanates a 10ft radius sphere of silence until it is resheathed. This is primarily used to muffle the victims' screams and allow the assassin an easy escape. Some may also have other unique properties.

Manufacturing process

The manufacturing of these items is a closely-guarded secret of the guild, but a few things are known. First, the procedure still appears to work after The Destabilization, unlike many magic item creation processes, which may suggest a single individual is responsible for producing them. Second, most of these weapons are designed with a specific target or context in mind. Some react to the blood of specific people or point towards targets like a dousing rod, for instance. Third, two of the ingredients found in all of these daggers are blood and meteoric iron from Starfalls.

Significance

The assassin's dagger is the iconic weapon of skulks of all kinds, and is the origin of the folk saying "If you hear silence, prepare for violence". Elite guards know that a sudden lack of ambient noise is a sign to fight (or flee) immediately.

Rarity

Only the assassins guild produces these weapons, but each agent carries multiple different copies and often leaves one or two behind during an operation. As such these daggers aren't extremely rare, but each one has a story related to it and may be difficult to buy. Rumor has it that the Thieves Guild sometimes buys them directly from teh assassins guild, so many more may be floating around unrecorded.
