Down Into the Dark

General Summary

"We need to go there." - Krumbleton

It is Dark Save for The Dusk And Dawn

  • The land below is dark, except when the sun comes to look into it sideways, for a couple of hours near dusk and dawn. At these times, the light is split into countless rainbows which bounce off the waterfalls and various floating crystalline rocks, casting coloured spotlights further down.

Target Practice

  • Rust secured Judy's help in upgrading the ballista.
  • Rust dropped a box below, and watched something snatch it away.
  • Rust tossed boxes for Judy to shoot at.

Gim is the King

  • Concerned for Gim's sanity, Harold tried to explain that Gim was acting in a way uncharacteristic to the dwarf, too confident. Gim denied any trouble, of course. Harold nonetheless managed to convince Farren to cast remove curse on Gim. The spell did not seem to have any effect.
  • Gim was sad that he would not be able to become archmage for now, as they had left Amberlight.
  • Rust identified the possibility that the soul of the previous wearer of the crown might be inside it, whispering to Gim. Gim evasively denied this. Harold wondered why he had not heard any voices, if this was the case.
  • Gim agreed to help Harold in the crafting of the magic cloak he wanted.

The Goose was Cooked

  • Krumbleton attempted to cook Randy's Roast Goose from Randy's Really Rad Recipes. Unfortunately, the bird was a bit overdone. Crunch assumed this failure to be his fault and lamented loudly.
  • Randy had once cooked this meal for Krumbleton and some other guildmates on Thanksgiving , back when they were maybe friends?
  • The party still enjoyed the goose, as well as some extremely strong Ale brewed by Alton.

Bigger Bird Eats Big Bird

  • Alton was distressed to note large birds in the distance. Farren identified them as possibly rocs.
  • One of the rocs was devoured by a larger winged creature.

Mieri Comes to Pick Up Siglern

  • Alton, after praying for ... assistance... for work, was approached by a dark elf named Mieri Auranoryr. She agreed to exchange various pieces of information for Siglern. She claimed to have been sent on behalf of Siglern's brother to bring him safely home. However, she also claimed that if Alton did not agree to the terms she would simply leave.
  • Alton learned that he was indirectly in the employ of a snake named Busni who was 2/3 of a fiend and apparently an idiot.
  • Alton also learned that Vakaros and Dimir were in possession of something needed to reach the treasure.
  • Mieri enjoyed Krumbleton's cookie cookie cookies.
  • Krumbleton corrected Farren's grammar, emerging from a drawer in the kitchen made for sleeping dwarves.
  • The captain was unhappy that anyone had come aboard his ship without permission, in the middle of nowhere. He identified Mieri as a celestial, though she maintained that her name was Mieri, she was there to bring Siglern home, and had been given a ride by a friend.
  • Rust learned that he was created for some conflict called the last war, which went on for something like a century (which he learned was a hundred years) and was a war of succession of some sort. (Basic Eberron lore, though Mieri did not reveal the real name of the world)
  • Rust learned that there are different worlds, Vyaelian was a particularly hard to get to and leave world, and that he was from a different world, presumably Abernyn, Ebernon?
  • Rust learned that not every fighter was warforged. He was concerned that maybe he wasn't so nice in the past, and wanted reassurance that he was on the good guys' side. Mieri tried to deflect these questions slightly, telling Rust that it was who he was now that mattered. He could still make many friends.
  • Rust also learned of the The Curators Institute south of the Nestled Desert. Mieri guessed that the "man from the south" who might know about "Abernon" might be from there.

Interviewing Siglern

  • The captain and Alton interviewed Siglern before letting him leave.
  • Siglern claimed to be a "private investigator" of sorts. Alton, of course, was aware that he was a spy for some government. Siglern refused to reveal the name of his employer.
  • Siglern revealed he had been in Amberlight, investigating after the incident in New Port during which Auroliryni ambassador Athran Cehalicido killed the possibly mad Keymaster in self defense. Reportedly, the Keymaster had recently returned from Amberlight.
  • In Amberlight, Siglern had discovered the demon worshippers and gate to the abyss as the party had. He also learned that the fish people, a group of shalarin who worshipped a demon lord as a god, were attempting to contact him, as this demon was not in Vyaelian.
  • Siglern also knew that Winifried Mourningfell was having an affair.
  • Previously, Siglern had been investigating the Merchant's Guild in Celeb. He had heard of Sir Finn the Green's attempts to avert a war, and, like the party, had learned that the Merchant's Guild was funding the Alliance against Qivari Expansion's war with the Qivar Empire.
  • Siglern also noted that the Merchant's Guild was taking steps to create a diplomatic incident with Verdanna to distract the Borean Alliance from this.
  • Siglern revealed that the Merchant's Guild had been taken over by a fellow named Douddem Emberguard who had been a guild member for at least 80 years. Witt Mar was likely in hiding. Expansion into Doran had possibly taken place under Douddem, but Siglern was not sure, as there had been a split for a time and he had left to go to Amberlight after being discovered. (The party would know that the fight club had still seemed to recognize Witt Mar as the leader)
  • Any number of people could want Siglern dead.
  • Siglern refused to reveal the identity of his brother, as he was not sure that Alton and Farren would not try to harm him.

Bye Siglern

  • Mieri pushed Siglern off the ship and then jumped after him, landing on a huge owl. She wished the party good luck and then tried to calm a screaming Siglern as they flew back up to the surface.
  • Alton revealed that Busni the snake fiend was his indirect employer. The captain contemplated murdering Busni.

Crafting

  • With Wyldo's assistance, Rust disassembled the The Orb of True Sight, attempting to learn the enchantment.
  • Rust also researched the spell-o-stone and attempted to construct one.

Dragonbait

  • A roc collided with the ship, fleeing something similar to a gargantuan void dragon that left a trail of ashy smoke behind it.
  • The crew successfully shot the roc, slowing it down, and letting the dragon eat it, while executing evasive maneuvers to not get eaten themselves.

Breakfast

  • Krumbleton cooked bacon and eggs in the shape of a great hammer, having seen, in a dream, a divine hammer resting on a platform in the middle of a lake in a cold, snowy, icy, land.

Land Ho

  • Alto spotted the start of some floating islands emerging from the darkness below.

Rewards Granted

  • Knowledge. So much knowledge.
  • Recipe for orb of truesight.
