Fines and Andrew Smith's House I Day 1

General Summary

We have Drizzt at home

Tracking

  • Alton followed Bradshaw when she left the bar.
  • Bradshaw did not seem to suspect she was being followed, though she did do the minimum to avoid being tailed. Her minimal efforts were no match for Alton.
  • She went first to a bar, and asked for a man named Hugh, who had not been there recently
  • Bradshaw then made her way into the castle ward, and knocked on the door of an eclectically painted house. No one seemed to be home.
  • Bradshaw asked the neighbours if Hugh had been home recently but they had not seen him. She claimed to be his cousin.
  • Alton got a bad vibe from the house. A chill went down his spine.
  • Bradshaw became impatient, and headed back to the tavern Farren was waiting in.
  • Alton hurried to get back before Bradshaw.

Fine

  • Jake did not show up when his shift should have ended.
  • Two guards approached captain Farren in the bar
  • Jake was in trouble for letting the crew of the Divine Retribution through.
  • Apparently the ship had possibly broken some kind of local space ship travel laws by not arriving by sea, and landing out of sight.
  • Beau attempted to distract the guards so that the party could escape, playing a song praising the city watch.
  • Harold and Farren tried to talk their way out of the situation, arguing that their ship was not whatever the law was talking about. Spell - jam?
  • Faulko argued that whatever they had done had at least been reckless and caused the tear in the sky.
  • It seemed that Constable Faulko really wanted to arrest the party/ fine them extensively. Harold and Farren accused him of trying to fill a quota.
  • Faulko was distracted by Beau.
  • Harold and Farren claimed to Lieutenant Jessica that they had been surprise teleported by a wizard who claimed to be able to help him. They said that the wizard was named Mark Thenderhelm or Thark Menderhelm.
  • Lt. Jessica told them that she would issue them a ticket that would have to be paid before their ship would be allowed to leave. Alternatively, they could find this Thenderhelm and contest the fine. She and Faulko left. The fine was for 10000 gold.
  • Alton, returning from his tracking of Bradshaw, at one point did try to worldlessly impersonate Drizzt in the background. He may have looked like a cosplayer.
  • Ryltar spent the entire time enjoying his drink and acting like he belonged. No one seemed to notice him to give him trouble.
  • Farren wanted to make sure that Jake was not under arrest. Bradshaw theorized that he might be at the watch tower just past where they were going. The party planned to go there after visiting "Andrew Smith"'s abandoned house.

To Andrew Smith's House

  • Bradshaw led the party to the home of the man who had waited a decade for Farren before leaving some years ago
  • The party refused to give her more money.
  • She sat outside the house, on the patio, waiting for them.
  • The party broke into the house
  • There was a stained glass window in the entry, that was somewhat difficult to see through. It depicted three ships, on on an underground lake, one in the sky amid other airships, and one in a dull hellish landscape.
  • There was a tapestry hanging on the wall depicting a palace amid bridges, streams, and a garden. It had a reddish colour pallette. Gantar identified iit as the Isle Of Roses. Kayelin was also not happy to see this. Behind the tapestry was a compartment with a dried rose. Alton tried to get Beau to touch it, then demonstrated how it wiped his memory... he did not remember what he forgot. When the rose was removed, the tapestry became blank. The party put the rose in Harold's bag of holding.
  • On the other side of the stained glass window was another tapestry. This one depicted five beautiful women around a pot. Behind it was a compartment covered by an explosive rune. In the compartment, there was a necklace with an eyeball on it. The party dropped this in Harold's bag of holding.
  • Harold immediately attacked a wall sconce. Another party member put it back on the wall, though it did not properly fit, and lit it. The north door in the room was framed by two other sconces that were lit when the rune exploded earlier.
  • Harold investigated a fireplace and went through to the other side. When Alton tried to follow him, the way was shut.
  • In the room, Harold's hand was almost bitten off by the tormented looking wall mounted head of a bear that contained a rose signet ring in it's mouth. Harold also found the head of a serpentine biird creature that was looking down and the head of an elk with a human skull peeking out of it's closed mouth. Harold tried to get the skull out.
  • Beau spotted some glyphs and called Alton to open a door to reach Harold. Alton misunderstood, smacked the glyph door instead and was teleported to the library.
  • Beau lock picked the doors herself, and made her way down the hallway with Ryltar, marking possible traps, lighting sconces. Beau found a broom closet with a broom, dust, and a voice that said it was on strike. Behind this closet, was an empty room that had a wall sconce. There was also an abandonned kitchen with some fresh smelling bread... that Beau ate two loaves of.
  • Alton read some books. One had some names he recongnized, and some he didnt. Another had names he did not recognize at all. Another contained notes on the party.
  • Farren helped Harold retrieve the skull. It animated and attacked. It had a flaming mohawk.
  • The party reconvened to fight the skull. It was defeated. Harold took the gem from it's eye.
  • The glyphs seemed to be trying to recast themselves after being expended, but magical instability caused them to instead start burning a faint blue.
