General Summary

Have you even asked the bees how they're doing?
— Beerum, to Eliza

Breakfast

  • The group rested for the night at the Jolly Bees
  • Braa ordered toast, eggs, and mead for breakfast
  • Beerum ordered a bun for breakfast, with butter. He did not want honey.
  • Eliza once more questioned whether the bees were truly happy
  • There was a deep gnome under a table in the Jolly Bees, staring at a clogged grate.
  • During breakfast, "Penelope" slipped out of the Jolly Bees and went to the blacksmith. There, she apologized for "almost killing him the other day". She back peddled slightly and claimed she just wanted to say sorry for "causing trouble". She tried to give him a gold piece. He refused to take gold for nothing, so grabeed the first thing he saw, a crossbow bolt, and handed it to her in exchange. He did not seem wholly comforted by "Penelope's" apology.
  • Braa and Beerum watched Eliza approach Tholki under the table.
  • Tholki wanted to dig the grate out. He convinced Eliza of conspiracy. He believed the bar owner or the town, was hiding an underground city from him.

Darkness

  • Tholki and Beerum had different opinions on darkness.
... "I mean in the metaphorical sense darkness" "I mean in the literal sense" "These are different" ...

The Bees

  • Eliza and her new friend went to question the bees
  • The worker bees were concerned with work, and making honey, and collecting nectar, for the queen.
  • The worker bees mentioned that some flowers had been destroyed so they had found new flowers.
  • Eliza wanted to talk to the queen.
  • The beekeepers refused to let her
  • Eliza was unable to persuade them otherwise.

The Grate

  • Beerum went to city hall to find information about restaurant codes relating to random clogged grates. He came to the conclusion that, if the grate was not of actual use, (which he had learned from the barkeep, was the case), it should be properly sealed, not just left clogged with dirt. He purchased cement and tools using his Luin's Shadow credit card.
  • The barkeep and the owner of the Jolly Bees did not want Tholki digging inside. Beerum, with his offer to properly seal the grate and knowledge of city bylaws, persuaded him otherwise.
  • Tholki had an unseen servant dig out the clogged dirt from the grate and the opening beyond. It seemed to be a very small "tunnel" going downwards. It was almost like a vent for the room below.
  • Tholki, followed by "Penelope" and Eliza the bat, descended the shaft to investigate. Tholki slipped, pulling them all down. He and "Penelope" were caught by the rope. Noticing something shiny, Tholki jumped the last 20 feet.
  • There was a small "room". The walls seemed to have caved in on all sides. Tholki collected three pieces of metal scraps. "Penelope" picked up the unfinished blade of a dagger. Eliza was satisfied that sealing the hole would not endanger and wild creatures.
  • The three ascended the shaft using the rope. Beerum sealed it.

Heggalin Again

  • Beerum, Braa, and "Penelope" tried to speak to Heggalin themselves.
  • Heggalin was not particularly cooperative.
  • Eliza tried to sneak in as a squirrel but was caught by a clueless and lawful Beerum and chased outside by Heggalin.
  • Heggalin revealed that Malgana's son was currently working in the stables. He made them promise not to spout any of this Malagana is a bird nonsense.

The Pearl Ring

  • Braa purchased a dagger from the smith.
  • Braa went to the market to find a pearl
  • The jewelers had some jewelery with pearls but no raw materials for sale.
  • He attempted to haggle the price of a platimum ring with a fine pearl on it.
  • This ring was apparently crafted by the finest jeweler in Port, cousin of the merchant. She had opened a shop of her own. The ring had been made as part of a set for the duchess Maron when she was a girl, about thirty years ago. It had been given in thanks to a travelling merchant who had....
  • Braa attempted to haggle further by asking for only the Pearl, which insulted the merchant/jeweler.

Denis

  • Braa continued seeking a Pearl. He noticed a thin man, wearing robes, carrying a book on his belt and weilding a staff.
  • Braa approached the presumed wizard and tried to buy a Pearl from him.
  • The wizard was named Denis.
  • Denis asked if he had seen Braa before. He inquired why Braa was in town etc...
  • Denis grinned and offered to sell Braa a Pearl for 100 gold pieces after summoning one to his hand.
  • Braa accepted the deal.
  • Braa used the Pearl to identify the statuette Beerum had found. It was not apparently magical, but had been created, at least in part, using a stone shaping spell.
  • Beerum determined that since it seemed very old and weathered on one side, it was likely not a forgery. In the past, such magic had been common enough among the Thurdain dwarves. However, in recent years similar magic had been used for forgeries.

Ponies

  • "Penelope" and Tholki attmpted to haggle for a two for one deal on ponies, but were not succcesful.
  • The ponies were called Cinnamon and Toast
  • Eliza tried to help, claiming Cinnamon was infertile. The horsemasters said this was intentional.
  • Tholki complained they were not underground ponies and were thus a rip off.
  • "Penelope" could not afford the price asked and seemed frustrated that they could not start the mission already - the reward would be enough.

Duboud

  • The group made their way to the stables to speak to Duboud, Malgana's son.
  • Duboud claimed he was being treated fine. He seemed sad.
  • Malgana the owl rushed at Duboud. This scared the teenager
  • Eliza spilled the beans against Beerum's wishes.
  • Duboud did not believe them and asked them to leave.
  • Braa went to find Denis, hoping the wizard could help the owl.

Denis?

  • Denis agreed to help, without even asking for payment.
  • Denis cast a powerful spell to calm the owl (which lasted at least fifteen minutes), then placed a silken square on top of the owl and cast another spell. When nothing appeared to happen, he cast a spell to detect magic. He claimed that there was no spell affecting the owl.
  • Tholki accussed Denis of being a cheat. Denis pointed out that Tholki's bottle was magical and used prestidigitation to dirty Tholki when Tholki dirtied the owl and asked Denis to clean it.
  • Denis left.
  • Braa attempted to use his Pearl to check the owl for magic, but felt nothing at all, despite the fact that the owl was still calm.
  • Beerum tried to detect magic, and noticed nothing on the owl. He did notice that Braa's Pearl was giving off divination energy.

  • A pearl from Denis the wizard
  • 1 dagger
  • 1 unfinished dagger blade from beneath the Jolly Bees
  • 3 pieces of metal scrap from beneath the Jolly Bees
